The Business Information Technology Department (BIT) in the Pamplin College of Business has a position available for a Program Support Technician. In this role, the incumbent will be responsible for maintaining financial records and processing transactions for a number of accounts, including operating, salary, overhead, start-up and Virginia Tech Foundation accounts in addition to research grant funds. This includes reconciling all accounts monthly in accordance with State and University guidelines. The Program Support Technician is also responsible for all departmental purchases, verifying the correctness of invoices and processing them for payment as well as preparing and entering graduate assistantship appointments and tuition waivers. This position will prepare and process hiring paperwork for graduate students and reconcile wage payroll. In addition, this position also supports approximately 10 faculty members and instructors with typing and editing manuscripts, course material and correspondence, test scoring, as well as special faculty assignments such as committees, preparation for national meetings, etc. Serves as receptionist by answering phone, assisting students and visitors. Collect and process book orders each semester. Assist with mail distribution. Serves as departmental liaison to graduate school.
Demonstrated bookkeeping experience and experience reconciling multiple accounts; demonstrated experience purchasing items from multiple sources for large organizations; customer service, working with people from a wide variety of backgrounds and ethnicities; experience preparing financial reports; demonstrated experience using computer software applications such as word processing, spreadsheets and email.
Degree in a related field or equivalent experience; experience with Banner or an equivalent financial record keeping system; experience with Hokiemart or an equivalent purchasing system; working knowledge of fiscal and purchasing procedures at Virginia Tech and through the State; experience with Canvas and working in an environment where prioritizing tasks and working independently are essential skills; experience with University records management and cash handling policies.
