The University of Alabama invites applications and nominations for the newly created position of Associate Vice President for Student Health and Wellbeing. This is an extraordinary leadership opportunity for a visionary and student-centered administrator with superior leadership and management skills. The position requires strong understanding of and experience with the multidimensional aspects of health and wellbeing for college students. Competitive candidates will have the knowledge, skills and preparation to establish a leading integrated program with a goal of becoming one of the nation's premier programs, supporting all aspects of students' health and wellbeing. Building upon a strong foundation in all elements of student health and wellbeing, the Associate Vice President will provide a vision for the future, and be familiar with proven strategies to assure and position UA's dynamic and integrated health and wellbeing focus as a national model of excellence.
Reporting to the Vice President, the Associate Vice President position provides leadership and supervision to the following departments within the Division of Student Life: Substance Abuse Intervention and Recovery, Counseling Center, Student Health Center and Pharmacy, and University Recreation.
The successful candidate will be an effective student advocate; will build strong bridges across campus; be committed to the values and benefits of multidisciplinary wellbeing for all students; and will possess a strong background of proven leadership experience in one or more of the assigned areas of responsibility.
The Associate Vice President will be an advocate for student success by creating and maintaining a healthy campus environment. The Associate Vice President will establish strong partnerships across campus; be committed to a holistic, multidisciplinary approach to health and wellbeing for a growing and diverse student population; lead with integrity, vision and humility, and understand and demonstrate effective team motivation and leadership skills. The Associate Vice President will have knowledge of student development theory; understand the diverse health and wellbeing issues facing college students; be well-informed of current topics facing higher education and student life; be an effective written and verbal communicator; use data in the process of decision making; have experience with crisis management and emergency response; and demonstrate commitment to diversity and inclusion, student success, student learning and development, as well as being an active member of the campus community.
This position requires a doctoral degree in higher education, student life administration, health science, or related field; a minimum of 10 years of pertinent, progressive experience as a Dean/Director or Assistant/Associate Dean/Director; and previous supervisory responsibility of professional staff and oversight of multiple departments. Candidates with a master's degree and 12 or more years of experience in a student health environment, including substantial supervisory and management experience, will be considered.
