Under the direction of the Patient Access Manager, the Financial Counselor is responsible for financially securing all accounts; ensuring accounts are evaluated within the Medical Center's Financial Policy; serving as financial resource to patient care team, staff, vendors, patients and their families regarding financial issues and/or referral to government programs; obtaining eligibility and benefit information, authorizations, patient demographic information; collecting deductibles and patient liability; presenting and explaining payment options for collections of monies due; coordinating facilitation by pursuing eligibility and benefits for services rendered which are determined to be necessary in the continuum of care; and keeping team informed of the status of the account by openly communicating and participating in removing barriers to discharge and on-line documentation in funding notes
A minimum of five (5) years previous Hospital Registration/Patient Access experience in a large, complex Healthcare environment.
Working knowledge of the patient referral and authorization process.
Highly proficient with Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook).
Knowledge of medical terminology.
Possess the personal characteristics of professionalism, credibility, commitment tohigh standards, innovation, discriminating judgment and accountability.
Effective interpersonal skills to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.
Excellent communication skills with the ability to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing and be able to articulate complex ideas for all levels of audiences.

Bilingual skills fluently in Spanish/English verbally and written preferred.
Demonstrates a thorough knowledge of third party reimbursement requirements and regulations.
Thorough knowledge of third party payors and reimbursement requirements, medical terminology, ICD-9, and CPT codes.
Must be able to work weekends, various hours and locations based on business needs
