Employees are an integral part of a community that is proud of its heritage and the accomplishments that make MCPHS University a first-class educational institution.Responsibilities:The Academic Counselor reports to the Assistant Dean for Academic Support Services and will: Hire, train, and manage Peer Mentors to be academic leaders during New Student Orientation and then work as Peer Tutors throughout the first year. Coordinate tutoring and pre-test review sessions with Peer Tutors. Create Academic Improvement Plans for students on warning and probation. Counsel students regarding study skills, test taking strategies, and time management. Support students returning from leaves of absence. Develop and present workshops on study skills and time management. Maintain statistical data on progress and persistence of student caseload. Participate in staff development and function as a team member of the Student Affairs staff. Act as a resource for faculty regarding issues of academic assistance and academic progression. Serve as an ex-officio member of the Academic Standing Committee. Participate in outreach programs to MCPHS community. Assist with orientation and commencement programs.Additional responsibilities may be assigned by the supervisor.Qualifications:Required: A master's degree in Education, Educational Psychology, Academic Advising or a related field. Experience working with a diverse population and a commitment to diversity. Experience working with students in postsecondary education setting. Knowledge of study skills, learning styles, and the learning process. Ability to establish and maintain harmonious working relationships with members of the college community. Strong oral and written communication skills. Effective time management skills and the ability to set priorities. Strong interpersonal, organizational and computer skills.
