Under the supervision and guidance of the Director of Development, the Planner/Communications Specialist is responsible for the design, implementation, and management of community-based planning project outputs (such as reports); the planning, organizing and managing of small business marketing/communications efforts for Made in NYC; providing support for Pratt Center fundraising efforts; providing support for community planning projects; and other types of collaborations with local partners.
- Plan, organize and manage small business marketing/communications efforts for the Made in NYC initiative.
- Design, implement and manage Pratt Center reports and other external communications outputs.
- Support Pratt Center community planning projects.
- Research and assist in the development of Pratt Center's fundraising initiatives.
- Collaborate with Pratt Center staff in other units on community development, economic development and sustainability projects.
- Supervise interns as assigned.
Education: Master's degree in Urban Planning, Policy or related field; or equivalent work experience.
Experience: Three years minimum combined experience in urban planning-related projects; small business support initiatives; and organizational development & resource development initiatives. Experience producing graphically sophisticated policy and planning reports, managing communications initiatives, and working with small businesses is required.
Knowledge and Skills: Must have strong communication skills (written and oral), ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community, and demonstrated community planning skills. Must be adept with Microsoft Office, graphic design, and GIS software. Knowledge of community-based planning issues in NYC (including zoning and land use policy), small business retention issues, and organizational development issues is required. Familiarity with transportation, environmental justice, real estate development and affordable housing issues, as well as the New York City advocacy community working in these issue areas is a plus. Must demonstrate inter-cultural competence with an understanding of the importance of diversity.
