Polytechnic School is an independent, coeducational day school in Pasadena, CA, offers a broad curriculum in the liberal arts for students in kindergarten through grade 12. The Polytechnic Teaching Fellow program initiated in September 2005, attracts recent college graduates who are interested in a career in education by providing them with meaningful first-year teaching experience, working with motivated and creative students and observing and learning the craft of teaching from senior faculty members.
Responsibilities: The Math Teaching Fellow will work with one or two experienced middle school teachers and participates fully in the life of the school. The expectation is that the Fellow will move from observation and work with individual students or small groups to responsibility for planning and teaching middle school math classes on his/her own. The Fellow contributes to the extra-curricular program by co-facilitating an advisory group, chaperoning outdoor education trips, coaching, and coordinating an after school homework hour for students, etc.
Qualifications: The successful applicant will have a BA in Mathematics and experience with middle school students. A strong background in science, experience in outdoor education, athletics, and tutoring would also be of value. Good technology skills are necessary.
