The Faculty of Arts and Sciences (FAS), the largest division of Harvard University, is dedicated to being at the forefront of teaching and learning and fostering cutting edge research and discovery. The FAS Libraries constitute the largest sector of the Harvard Library, including 11 million of the combined 20 million volume holdings of the full Harvard Library system. FAS librarians support teaching and learning for Harvard College's 6700 undergraduate students and 4000 graduate students.
Harvard Library is launching a team-based approach to supporting faculty and student needs in science and engineering. As part of this new framework, the new Cabot Science Library, opening in Spring 2017, includes video studios, multimedia production facilities, collaboration spaces, an active-learning classroom and a dynamic space called the Discovery Bar.
The Research Data Management Librarian for the Sciences (RDML) reports to the Director of Science and Engineering Library Services. This position will help launch research data management services through the office of the Director of Library Digital Strategies and Innovation. Understanding the research landscape, the role of campus partnerships and the capabilities and limits of library support will be essential to the RDML's work. The RDML needs to communicate effectively with STEM researchers with a deep understanding of the complexities of research workflows and grant management. The RDML will work with relevant stakeholders in developing policies, guidelines and workflows of data management services to ensure good research practice, protection of intellectual property, proper storage and security of research data, compliance with relevant regulations, and appropriate access to research data. The RDML will coordinate ongoing training and support for library staff on research data management fundamentals and services.
The RDML participates actively in the intellectual life and administrative activities of the Harvard Library, serving on committees, working groups, and other activities promoting the President's vision of "One University," and is expected to participate fully in librarianship, conducting reference, outreach, library instruction and liaison activities. As appropriate, the RDML supervises graduate student interns and undergraduate student workers.

Founded in 1638, Harvard has a rich legacy of libraries that continues into the 21st century. In total there are over 70 libraries at Harvard that comprise the Harvard library system, with combined holdings of over 19 million items, including 900,000 e-journals, e-books and other e-resources.
More than 12 million of the Harvard Library items are part of the collection of a centrally administered unit within the Faculty of Arts and Sciences that is referred to as the Harvard College Library (HCL). It is comprised of Widener, Lamont, Birkhoff Mathematical, Cabot Science, Chemistry and Chemical Biology, Fine Arts, Harvard-Yenching, Houghton, Loeb Music, Physics Research, and Tozzer libraries and the Harvard Film Archive, Harvard Map Collection, and the Harvard Theatre Collection.
The School of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences serves 1,227 faculty, 4,000 graduate students in 55 degree programs, 6,800 undergraduate students in over 45 fields of study, and is part of Harvard University with 21,000 students university-wide.
The Harvard Library holds membership in Association of Research Libraries, Center for Research Libraries, Coalition for Networked Information, Council on Library and Information Resources, and Digital Library Federation.
