Reporting to the Liaison to the CTO of the Division of Continuing Education, this position offers opportunities to design, implement, and experiment with new forms of pedagogy and educational technologies. This position will also involve opportunities to work closely with faculty, undergraduates, and graduate students.
Initial opportunities may include:
Design and implementation of web-based pedagogical tools.
Design of back-end APIs and database schemas.
Mentoring of fellow developers.
This is a 1-year term position with the possibility of extension after the first year. Though listed as 6-30-17 term end date, the position will be reviewed at the term date aforementioned and review for the balance of the term.
The Division of Continuing Education (DCE) comprises several entities including the Harvard Extension School, the Harvard Summer School, the Harvard Professional Development Programs and the Harvard Institute for Learning in Retirement. For more than a century, Harvard Extension School has made Harvard faculty and teaching accessible to a diverse community of local, national, and international students. Harvard Extension School enrolls approximately 13,000 students per year in approximately 65 liberal arts and professional fields. More than 650 open enrollment online and classroom courses are offered at affordable prices to our communities across the world. Harvard Summer School offers approximately 300 courses on the Harvard Campus to 6,000 secondary school, college and adult learners and more than 30 international study abroad programs for up to 600 students each summer. The Division also includes the Harvard Institute for Learning in Retirement with approximately 550 active members and Harvard Professional Development Programs offering about 60 two-day, noncredit courses annually.

A Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field.
Fluency in PHP, Python, and/or Ruby.
Experience with MySQL or equivalent.
Experience with Linux and a command line.
5 + years' experience working with software technologies.
Master's degree in computer science or equivalent experience is preferred.
Experience in an academic environment is also preferred. Teaching experience is a plus.
Experience with virtualization, videography, and system administration is also a plus as is experience with Linux.
Position requires superior organizational skills, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to collaborate on a team.
