Hours and days work vary/Weekdays with possible occasional weekend daytime
Position will be responsible for locating and making initial contact with potential participants, traveling to participants' homes, interviewing participants, recording participant responses using a laptop computer or tablet, administering a series of cognitive tests, instructing participants in the use of simple at-home sleep monitoring technology (actigraphy), scheduling additional home visits, data entry. Some proportion of the interviews will be conducted by telephone, either from the study office or by interviewer using their own phone.
Interviewers will need to preserve the integrity and confidentiality of all information acquired, and will be required to complete HIPAA training and sign a confidentiality agreement.
High School Diploma/GED required. Additional education may substitute for required experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula. Prior field work experience is required, preferably conducting in-home interviews. Familiarity with Baltimore neighborhoods is necessary. Prior experience administering cognitive assessment measures is not essential, as some training will be provided, but would be a significant advantage.
JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. Additional related experience may substitute for required education on the same basis. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.
Excellent communication skills and flexibility are a must for this role. Interviewers are required to make first contact with participants and recruit them into the study, spend time administering a lengthy and detailed interview and cognitive assessment battery in participants' homes, and ensure that participants enjoy their experience as much as possible in order to retain them in the study. Interviewers will need to be able to easily build rapport with individuals from diverse backgrounds, at times in unpredictable and chaotic environments. Ability to communicate effectively with older adults as well as family "gatekeepers" is important. Familiarity with the use of a laptop computer / tablet, or ability to learn this relatively quickly.
Driving up to 2 hours at a time, traveling from the office to participants' homes. Carrying equipment from office to car to participant's homes (will include laptop computer or tablet, blood pressure cuff, scale and one briefcase containing cognitive testing materials). Sitting for up to 2 hours at a time, administering interview or cognitive tests. Holding laptop computer / tablet and entering participant responses for up to 2 hours at a time.
A valid driver's license and access to a car with current auto insurance are required.
Some college courses preferred. Some related experience.
