The University of Washington is currently in the final phase of an enterprise-wide, multi-year initiative to replace the existing payroll system with a modern, integrated system that will provide functionality to support HR and payroll business needs. It also will provide a set of standardized processes to significantly improve support for critical HR and payroll work across the university. The HR/Payroll Modernization project is one of highest profile projects at the university, and will be one of the largest HR/payroll system projects in Washington State. The outcome of the project will be highly visible at all levels of the university and the state.
The University of Washington's HR/Payroll Modernization initiative has an outstanding opportunity for a Report Developer to play a key role in implementation of the human resources and payroll system including the modernization of related business processes throughout the institution.
The Report Developer will work as a member of the Reporting and Technical Analysis team and will design and develop a large number of reports with the Workday HR/Payroll product. The reports will provide essential information for making business process decisions and analyzing HR/Payroll data. This position will translate HR/Payroll reporting requirements into Workday reporting solutions. The Report Developer will assess short and long-term reporting requirements to develop essential reports for the HR/Payroll go-live and beyond. The Report Developer will develop and advocate reporting solutions using a standard quality-driven approach. The position will be required to explain reporting issues or gaps across technical and non-technical audiences. The Report Developer will participate in recommending the most effective and efficient report designs over the course of the project implementation leveraging the enterprise Report Strategy.
This position will report to the Reporting and Technical Analysis Lead. This position works closely with other members of the combined UW/Vendor Technical team focused on data conversion, integration, reporting and analysis. Additional responsibilities include coordinating with management, project staff, campus partners, and vendors in resolving both business and technical issues.
Building and Testing of Reports
This role will build Workday HR/Payroll reports. This includes:
Reviewing existing business requirements for HR/Payroll reports and translate into technical requirements with vendor products.
Becoming knowledgeable on the Workday reporting tool for common and advanced reporting solutions.
Influencing the technical decision-making process for determining short and long-term data sources using the program reporting strategy.
Learning advanced report-writing capabilities in the vendor product in support of complex technical requirements.
Pairing and sharing knowledge with full and part-time contributed technical staff.
Validating report users can view information based on security roles and authorizations.
Report Strategy, Analysis and Design
This role will contribute to data modeling strategy, analysis and design for delivering the various reports required to implement the Workday HR/Payroll system successfully. This includes:
Providing design and report writing support for functional leads and other business analysts who may contribute to the UW reports catalog.
Creating report design documents.
Maintaining an accurate record of all design decisions.
Identifying report solutions to align with the overall project timeline.
Ensuring reports are designed and built following vendor guidelines, while satisfying the requirements in the design documents.
Reviewing and contribute to the overall testing strategy and plan.
Participating in functional design sessions.
Participating in the design and running of end-to-end tests of the system.
Assessing, influencing and providing solutions to issues that arise with reports during testing.
Develop data model visuals to assist in design and development of Workday reports.
Identify and articulate issues for escalation and contribute to project status reports and other key project deliverables.
Alert reports lead when change requests are necessary to achieve outcomes of reporting solutions.
Bachelor's degree and 4 years of experience working on increasingly larger projects.
Ability to understand business and reporting issues and alternatives, and contribute to problem solving and issue resolution within and across these modalities, including phases of fit-gap analysis, system design and configuration, security design, testing, training, reporting, requirements tracking, and business process improvement.
Experience transferring knowledge across technical and testing staff. Experience working with subject matter experts and business leads to analyze and interpret reporting requirements.
Experience acting as a collaborative and supportive member of a team to accomplish project goals.
Experience managing a high volume of business rules to ensure consistency across reporting needs.
Experience working with other team members to troubleshoot IT solutions and describe problems.
Experience evaluating requirements to identify opportunities to streamline or standardize business processes and /or other IT solutions.
Experience contributing to analysis and decision-making for extracting data to meet reporting needs.
Experience and knowledge of version tracking strategies.
Knowledge of testing phases and strategies to maintain quality standards.
Experience synthesizing large volumes of complex information into logical categories to facilitate problem solving, work breakdown, prioritization and development.
Experience designing IT solutions within a complex environment.
Experience working with other team members to troubleshoot security problems around access to reports or data fields.
Experience evaluating reporting requirements to identify parameterized/re-usable reports that can serve multiple needs
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
Experience with Workday reporting or similar system.
Experience in a large university, large medical center, or other large complex enterprise.
Experience working with a Human Resources and Payroll system at a technical level.
Experience representing and/or leading aspects of system development and implementation efforts across a large, decentralized enterprise.
Experience functioning as a lead within a project work-stream.
Experience working on an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system, ideally Workday.
Experience working with UW Human Resources and Payroll Systems.
Experience contributing to and developing many technical deliverables within large-scale enterprise projects.
Experience with Jira, SharePoint or other enterprise tools for managing work and tracking deliverables
