Housing and Food Services (HFS) is pleased to announce an opening on our culinary team for a Kitchen Lead at District Market. We are seeking an experienced kitchen professional who can lead a team in a busy market/deli style kitchen. The District Market is a neighborhood market with grocery, hot deli and grab-and-go sections that serve approximately 750 customers daily, making it a popular place for students, faculty and staff to find good food on-the-run.
What you'll be doing:
Supporting and actively participating in all aspects of production of a variety of cuisines for a busy hot deli/market kitchen.
Providing direction to the staff involved in assembling foods, plating, and providing high quality customer service.
Training, instructing and checking the work of all kitchen staff, delegating to cooks and leads.
Reviewing prepared menu items to ensure proper cooking, presentation and authentic flavors.
Creating and testing new recipes, and conducting tastings.
You need to be organized in your work and speedy with your cooking skills. Customer service is our top priority and should be yours too. To qualify for the job, you must have at least one year of experience as a Lead Line Cook in a high-volume production kitchen. You will also need to obtain your Washington State Food Worker Card within two weeks of being hired, and you will need to renew it when necessary to keep it current in the future.
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except where there are legal requirements such as license/certification/registration.
CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT:
The right person for this job will have no problem passing a criminal background check and reference verification. Membership in the Washington Federation of State Employees (WFSE) Union is also a must.
This position will work Tuesday-Friday, 1:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., & Saturday 11:00 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.
Appointment to this position is contingent upon obtaining satisfactory results from a criminal background check.
