Performs individual, marital, couples, group, and crisis intervention counseling to students experiencing social, emotional, and vocational difficulties. Provides testing as appropriate for license and makes appropriate referrals for services, supervises, consults with faculty, staff, and students and performs outreach functions. Work is performed under general supervision and performance is based upon completion of assignments and results obtained. The performance evaluation is conducted through the performance evaluation system and in accordance with the University Policies & Procedures.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide individual, group, and relationship therapy to students
Provide evaluation and assessment of students in crisis
Ability to provide consultation to faculty, staff, students and students' families as needed
Handle walk-in crisis services and after-hours/weekend on-call coverage as part of the UTHSC Behavioral Health Services rotation
Provide outreach and training for student leaders, and other student groups and to the committees as requested by Director
Provide information and training along with preventive and appropriate responses related to students with behavioral concerns or concerning behaviors.
Provide behavioral risk assessments, advocacy, resources and referrals as well as follow-up services for students who are experiencing significant physical, mental, psychological and/or life management difficulties.
Collaboratively work with the campus through the Campus Awareness, Resource & Education Team, Behavioral Intervention Team, Threat Assessment Team, Executive Committee of the Wellness Council, Administration, Campus Police, faculty, staff and students towards minimizing the impact of mental illness or emotional distress on the safety, academic, and personal pursuits of students and the campus through proactive and effective referrals, and follow- up.
Provide timely documentation of clinical services
Coordinate a mental health, developmental or college counseling related area of prevention and outreach for UTHSC (e.g., eating disorders, anxiety/coping skills, suicide prevention, etc.)
Ability to form and maintain effective counseling relationships with clients, to monitor client movement in the therapy process, and terminate the relationship in appropriate ways.
Ability to plan, implement, evaluate and report activities.
Ability to supervise employees, interns, practicum students and provide direct training when needed.
Ability to effectively communicate orally, both in person, online, in writing and by telephone.
Ability to respond to emergency situations in a timely manner.
Provide monthly and annual reports on student progress.
Participate in regular multidisciplinary meetings.
Ability to maintain a consistent and dependable work schedule adhering to state requirements for employee work hours.
