The project manager’s primary objective is to provide project planning and program management for Continuing and Professional Education (CPE). This position is responsible for the implementation of short courses, training programs, conferences, institutes, workshops, and other unique outreach offerings. The project manager is also responsible for the following: program budgeting; defining and managing the time-line and scope of services for each project; working with the program coordinator team and all CPE functional units to oversee project implementation; having sole financial responsibility and accountability for each project; negotiating facility agreements and contracts; assessment of program needs and marketing research; and post-program reporting.
Occasional travel required to provide on-site local and out-of-town program support. Occasional weekend, early morning, and late evening work required based on program schedules.
This position is a restricted appointment and continuation of appointment may be contingent on availability of funding and business needs.
Bachelor’s degree in business or a related field or equivalent training and/or experience in financial, business or hospitality management
Experience with project planning in a continuing education setting
Experience developing and financially managing a variety of programs such as short courses, conferences, workshops and special events
Experience preparing budget plans to meet stated financial goals
Must have strong computer skills such as work processing, spreadsheets, email, internet navigation and an understanding of social media
Must be able to handle numerous projects and details and prioritize according to needs
Must be a team player and have excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills, and have the ability to manage and handle on-the-spot changes and emergencies in a professional and effective manner
Master’s degree in a related field
Advanced experience in project planning and budgeting in continuing education setting
Experience with Commonwealth of Virginia and/or university policies and procedures
Certified Program Planner (CPP), Certified Meeting Planner (CMP), or Project Management Professional (PMP) designations
