| Reporting to the Director for Library Collection Services, this position is responsible, in collaboration with the LCS Manager, for supervising the day-to-day operation of the unit, with a special focus on managing deliveries of physical content throughout the library system. The LCS Assistant Manager directs staff at the facility following established procedures and works with the Manager in implementing new ones to insure that LCS activities integrate seamlessly with those of other allied units (Access Services, Preservation, Library IT, and Document Delivery). The LCS Assistant Manager also helps maintain the security and integrity of the LSF physical plant, its equipment, and vehicle fleet.|
In collaboration with the LCS Manager, hires, trains, supervises, evaluates, and disciplines a staff of twelve non-exempt employees. As directed, prioritizes and assigns work to achieve the unit's operational goals in the most efficient way. Monitors day-to-day performance to assure accuracy and compliance with LCS and YUL standards. Reports problems and helps implement solutions that insure the smooth operation of the unit. Compiles and reviews data to monitor productivity and judge staff performance. Posts results (spreadsheets, Access files, etc.) to SharePoint or other information sharing sites. Provides the Director with periodic reports and information as requested on LCS operations, especially on delivery-related activities. Assumes primary responsibility for maintaining the LCS's fleet of five vehicles. Oversees routine maintenance and keeps maintenance records and driver checklists. Interacts with the appropriate vendors to effect repairs. Tracks fueling expense and schedules periodic washing of vehicles. Manages all details arising from events related to the operation of the LCS fleet. In conjunction with Risk Management, investigates accidents, and monitors driving/parking infractions. Addresses conditions that impact deliveries, such as poor snow removal, inadequate parking, and malfunctioning drop boxes. Insures that LCS is in compliance with Connecticut DOT mandates and that vehicles are operated in accordance with directives from the university's Fleet Management unit. Manages driver training and schedules other associated training related to the safe operation of a motor vehicle. Oversees the LCS's interaction with internal customers for all delivery services. Insures the accuracy of communications with units receiving deliveries. As required, completes daily driver manifests for vehicles using on-line tools. Assumes responsibility for the accuracy and timeliness of LAS functions related to the linking of special collection material to transport containers. Together with the LCS Manager, monitors the environment and security at LSF and reports problems to the appropriate parties for correction. Assists in maintaining security at the facility by insuring that access to the facility by authorized vendors is controlled. In the absence of the Manager, assumes responsibility for all facets of LCS operations. Serves as the secondary contact for emergencies and calls relating to the facility. Serves as the Coordinator of Recovery Operations in the event of a disaster at LSF. Participates in Library and University meetings pertaining to LCS operations as requested. May be required to assist in disaster recovery efforts. May be assigned to work at West Campus in West Haven, CT.
