Mathematics is a vital part of the science curriculum at University of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC) and underlies the technological advances that drive society. The Mathematics Department has 15 ladder-rank faculty, 11 temporary and affiliated faculty, 35 graduate students, and approximately 300 undergraduate majors. The Department services over 8,000 students and 23 campus-wide majors annually. The Mathematics Department offers primary lecture courses, secondary instructional labs, discussion sections, independent study courses and summer session courses. Mathematics faculty and staff also administer research and instructional projects that focus upon the enhancement of pre-college education in the field of mathematics. This includes the Mathematics Diagnostic Testing Project (MDTP) and the Monterey Bay Area Mathematics Program (MBAMP).
MDTP is one of ten regional sites in California (sponsored by the California Academic partnership program) that offer local middle schools and secondary teachers free mathematics achievement, diagnostic testing and analysis services for their students. The UC Santa Cruz site of the MDTP now services Monterey, San Benito, Santa Clara and Santa Cruz counties. The MDTP tests are designed to assist teachers in measuring student readiness for a broad range of mathematics courses. A series of readiness tests for college preparatory mathematics courses are available at five levels from first year algebra to calculus. UC Santa Cruz scores the students' responses and provides summary and diagnostic information on student results.
Under general supervision of the administrative manager, the incumbent independently performs administrative, budgetary, office management and fund raising support while also serving as the Assistant for the Santa Cruz site of the Monterey Bay Area Diagnostic Testing Project (MDTP).
Demonstrated successful and increasingly complex administrative experience including but not limited to reception, facilities & materials management, scheduling and financial systems
Experience using computers with speed and accuracy for word processing, spreadsheets, database record entry, electronic mail and internet searches, with ability and ability to learn and use new systems and software programs
Strong written and verbal communication, interpersonal and customer-service skills sufficient to convey information clearly, concisely, and accurately
Demonstrated experience working well independently and as part of a team
Strong organizational and planning skills, including the ability to set priorities, maintain workflow, meet deadlines for simultaneous projects, and complete a high volume of work with attention to detail and accuracy with frequent interruptions
