KUOW Public Radio, a nonprofit corporation, is operated under an agreement with the University of Washington, the stations' licensee. The mission of KUOW is to create and serve an informed public that is challenged and invigorated by an understanding and appreciation of events, ideas, and cultures. To help in this mission KUOW has an outstanding opportunity for an Assistant Finance Director to assist in the financial management of department general accounting, reporting and budget functions; assist the Director of Finance and Administration with general administrative support activities.
Reporting to the Director of Finance and Administration, the duties and responsibilities include:
Assists in the management of all operation, special project, and capital budgets: works closely with senior management on expenditure approvals; assists in the creation of project budgets; monitors department budget activity
Monitors cash flows and recommends cash transfers when necessary
Supervises general accounting functions including purchase orders, accounts payable/receivable, gift processing, balance sheet and general journal reconciliation; provides coordination with appropriate University departments and outside vendors
Assists in fixed asset conversion to new accounting system
Helps prepare monthly financial and budget vs actual reports
Assists in the preparation of the annual external audit schedules, the CPB Annual Financial Report, and other financial reports as required
Provides support for grant, contract administration; work with Major Gifts to prepare grant proposals
Administrative support functions:
Assists in the maintenance of permanent records for staff leave reports
Oversee reconciliation of general ledger to subledgers (Memsys and Marketron)
Assists the Director of Finance and Administration in budget development and personnel administration
Assumes responsibilities of the Director in her/his absence
Supervises Fiscal specialist and payroll coordinator
A bachelor's degree and four to five years' experience in financial management and general accounting required.
Skills in financial management software, report preparation, and organizing work.
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
Background in business administration with experience in university environment preferred.
