The Center for Business Intelligence & Analytics (CBIA) in the Pamplin College of Business at Virginia Tech is a driving force within Virginia Tech for the creation of collaborative relationships with students, faculty, and corporate leaders to advance the best practices in business analytics research and education. CBIA serves as an interdisciplinary resource to support faculty research both within the Pamplin College of Business and in cooperation with other centers and academic units within Virginia Tech. CBIA also leads curricular initiatives for students with interests in business intelligence and analytics and builds synergistic partnerships within the Virginia business community.
CBIA is seeking applicants for a professional faculty position as Associate Director. Applications are invited from individuals dedicated to teaching, student engagement, and corporate outreach.
Responsibilities will include teaching in the Master of Science in Business Administration with a concentration in business analytics (MSBA-BA) program and providing administrative support for the CBIA. The Associate Director solicits, develops, supervises and evaluates capstone analytics projects for MSBA-BA students. Administrative duties may include the design, development and maintenance of brochures, promotional banners and posters, news stories/media relations, a digital newsletter, web pages, and CBIA's social media presence. This position will include additional program support activities like interviewing MSBA-BA candidates, coaching graduate students in improving their communications skills when writing resumes, cover letters, consulting reports, etc. and giving business presentations. It will also develop a systematic approach to track program outcomes, measure effectiveness, and propose continuous program enhancements. The position will help build and maintain strategic relationships with corporate sponsors of CBIA to maintain financial support of its academic activities. This position works collaboratively with colleagues from the Pamplin College of Business and the University Relations to enhance the reputation of and to build support for CBIA and its programs.
Qualifications for this position include either a Ph.D. or M.S. in a business or technical field coupled with industry/business experience that includes project management, consulting, project design, and business intelligence and analytics. The successful candidate will have excellent communication skills and a demonstrated ability to teach effectively. Experience soliciting, developing, supervising and evaluating industry sponsored projects. Administrative experience in the area of communications that may include the design, development and maintenance of brochures, promotional banners and posters, news stories/media relations, a digital newsletter, web pages, and social media presence. Experience providing program support in such areas as interviewing, coaching and helping others improve their communications skills, including writing and presentation skills.
Evidence of contributing to emergent directions of the CBIA and the Pamplin College of Business.
Experience with teaching applications of software tools (spreadsheets, computational programming, and/or data acquisition).
Skills with analytics software and programs typically used in business analytics.
Experience with program development. Demonstrated ability to enhance student performance. General management experience.
