The Assistant Project Manager represents Virginia Tech during the design/construction process. This position leads project team (A/E, VT CDC staff, consultants, contractors, users, etc) to achieve a successful project outcome. The Assistant Project Manager ensures design and construction maximizes university program goals, while conforming to the project’s established criteria for cost, schedule and quality. This position coordinates the involvement of all participants in the design, value engineering, document review processes, construction, and occupancy processes.
Degree in engineering architecture or construction management and/or equivalent related experience in a qualifying discipline with design/construction project management. Previous experience leading and managing projects from design through construction and occupancy. Knowledge of site/building design and construction processes. Demonstrated knowledge of building codes and industry standards. Budget and records management experience. Must have experience with a variety of industry related software such as AutoCAD, BIM, word processing, spreadsheets, and project management software. Excellent organizational, team building, and interpersonal skills required. Ability to interpret complex design/construction documents and effectively administer design/construction/consultant contracts throughout the project. Demonstrated ability interpreting construction schedules.
Registered Professional Engineer or Architect in the Commonwealth of Virginia desired; Engineer in Training (EIT) or Intern Architect nearing registration acceptable. Working knowledge of Commonwealth of Virginia (or other public agency) capital outlay directives and higher-education facilities requirements. Other desirable certifications include LEED, Design-Build Professional, Certified Construction Manager, and/or Certified Project Manager. Demonstrated knowledge of scheduling software such as MS project and/or Surtrac, etc.
