The Department of Psychology, University of Alberta, invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor in Developmental Science - Advanced Methodology to commence with an ideal start date of July 1, 2017.
Candidates will hold a PhD in Psychology or closely related field by the date of the appointment or shortly thereafter. Post-doctoral experience is preferred.
Applicants are expected to have an excellent research record; we welcome a coupling of substantive expertise in any aspect of developmental science across any segment of the human lifespan (infancy to late life) with expertise in developmental research methodology. Evidence of teaching effectiveness is required.
The successful applicant will teach undergraduate and graduate courses in statistical methodology and developmental science and provide graduate-level training in advanced methods (e.g., multivariate longitudinal designs, growth-curve modeling, big data applications, social network analysis). We support the development of independent and collaborative cross-disciplinary, cross-institutional, and cross-national programs of research, especially using longitudinal designs and analyses. Current developmental research themes include cognitive and language development in childhood, mental health in adolescence to midlife, cognitive neuroscience in childhood and aging, social and emotional development in children and adolescents, stereotypes and beliefs about aging, and transitions from normal aging to impairment and Alzheimer’s disease.
The successful applicant will be expected to contribute to the level of expertise across campus in quantitative methods and to developmental and aging research, as well as to the capacity of students and investigators to engage in emerging, multidisciplinary research opportunities consistent with objectives of the new institutional strategic plan at the University of Alberta (For the Public Good; https://uofa.ualberta.ca/strategic-plan/-/media/isp/final-draft/12885-isp-draft-may2016-may-5.pdf).
