Job Description Summary:
The Division of Development and Alumni Relations (DAR) is responsible for leading the university's alumni and fundraising efforts.
DAR seeks to promote a culture of philanthropy throughout the university community, including alumni, students, parents, faculty, staff, corporations and foundations, patients and other friends. Our goal is to advance GW's mission of excellence in education, research, scholarship, and patient care.
DAR is seeking an Assistant Director of Alumni Volunteer Programs & Professional Development. The incumbent in this position will Manages the GW Alumni Association's (GWAA) recognition programs, including but not limited to the following:
Oversight of the administration and promotion of the nomination processes for the Distinguished Alumni Achievement Award and Alumni Outstanding Service Award;
Staffing the GWAA Awards Committee to aid in the identification and selection of ideal award recipients; and. Managing all aspects of the events associated with each award.
Delivers collaborative, on-going professional development training programs and a volunteer leadership development program designed specifically for alumni, parents, and other key university volunteers. These initiatives will be delivered both virtually and in-person. A focus of this position is to engage in a university-wide effort to create position descriptions for all alumni volunteer roles.
Collects, records, queries, and evaluates alumni volunteer data to measure volunteer engagement to support strategic decision-making with respect to future volunteer engagement efforts. Manages staff in tracking and coding volunteer engagement positions and hours to ensure proper reporting and data maintenance. Utilizes data to conduct discovery in coordination with development officers to enhance the pipeline of engagement and stimulate volunteer philanthropy.
Facilitates regular meetings with alumni relations staff and various staff leads at the school, department, and program level across the university to align programming and initiatives with the needs of each key stakeholder and their alumni constituents.
Assists in executing the strategy for the recruitment, training, professional development, evaluation, and stewardship of all alumni volunteers across the Division of Development & Alumni Relations. In addition Supports office-wide, signature programs such as the annual Alumni Weekend.
Designs and manages the Colonials Serve initiative, a collaborative effort between the GW Alumni Association and Office of Alumni Relations designed to highlight community service engagement opportunities for alumni across the globe.

Coordinates all alumni benefits (i.e., an affinity credit card program, various insurance product offerings, and other discounted services), which includes maintaining contact with benefit vendors, reviewing benefits marketing materials, and reporting on program participation and revenues.,
Manages marketing and communication efforts related to alumni lifelong learning initiatives, including a travel program and online library resources, and supports registration and access to an online professional development program series(GWebinars).,
Assists with all meeting and event logistics related to the GW Alumni Association's board of directors, including registration and nametag and meeting material preparations.,
Supports the GW Alumni Association's annual recognition programs, including the Distinguished Alumni Achievement Awards, the Alumni Outstanding Service Awards and the GWAA Prize for outstanding graduates.,
Processes online alumni volunteer interest forms, and assists with the codification and reporting of alumni volunteer activity.,
Assists with event logistics related to alumni career services and professional development activities, including webinars, networking events, workplace and industry-related events, and career fairs.,
Serves as the Benefits and Services liaison to the alumni marketing and communications team, creating media production schedules and facilitating the creative process for print and online copy and design.,
Supports office-wide, signatures programs such as the annual Alumni Weekend.,
Performs other work related duties as assigned.
Most administrative workers are not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions.
Professional experience in a higher education setting, including experience in advancement, volunteer management, human resources development or a related field such as communications, marketing, or public relations preferred.
Established flexibility and initiative; the ability to work independently, as well as thrive in a team environment to achieve institutional goals.
Demonstrated strong writing, planning and organizational skills.
Experience with project management and interoffice collaboration.
Ability to organize and complete numerous tasks simultaneously with close attention to detail and prioritization to meet deadlines.
Ability to work frequent evening and occasional weekend events as needed.
Strong ability to recruit, motivate and develop volunteers along the alumni continuum of engagement.
Well-developed and professional interpersonal, written and oral communication skills and the ability to use various mediums effectively to communicate messages.
Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
