Housing and Food Services (HFS) is pleased to announce an opening on our Husky Grind team at the District Market for a Barista Lead. We are seeking candidates with strong leadership experience, who have a passion for customer service and can work on a team in a fast-paced caf location. The Barista Lead is responsible for preparing beverages for customers, as well as leading and instructing staff in maintaining established high standards for service.
Husky Grind is about more than providing a quality cup of coffee. Having developed their own flavor profiles by small-batch roasting on campus, the coffee beans are roasted for Husky Grind by local roasters. Husky Grind strives to provide an excellent experience in a comfortable caf setting, making it the perfect place to grab a cup of coffee on the go or to relax and enjoy in the company of others. Husky Grind at the District Market serves approximately 3,000 customers each week.
As a working lead, prepare espresso beverages and provide service to customers.
Assign, instruct and monitor the work of staff to ensure established specifications are met.
Maintain standards for customer service while ensuring the expectations for beverage production, ordering, opening and closing of the cafe are met.
Acquire a Washington State Food Worker Card within two weeks of employment and maintain thereafter.
One year of experience in food service. Experience must demonstrate successful performance: o Six months of experience preparing espresso and related beverages in a high-volume retail environment. o Six months of experience working in a leadership role where training, assigning work and work evaluation was performed.
Specific Position Requirements - References that can verify success:
Operating commercial espresso machines and grinders.
Reading, writing, speaking and following written instructions in English.
Communicating orally with customers and coworkers.
Working with continual interaction with a diverse group of people up to 7.5 hours a day.
Maintaining attendance and punctuality based on a work schedule where hours of work may vary based on business needs.
Ability to use the Internet, email, and Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel. Familiarity with basic computer applications.
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except where there are legal requirements such as license/certification/registration.
CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT:
A satisfactory outcome from the reference check process.
Membership in the Washington Federation of State Employees (WFSE) Union.
This position will work Sunday through Thursday, 10:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.
