Strategy and Information Management, a unit within the Office of the Vice Provost for Academic Personnel, supports the Provost as well as the University of Washington community, providing web application development, information management and analytical support for data and processes affecting the University's faculty, librarians, and academic staff.
We have an outstanding opportunity for a Senior Computer Specialist to provide professional-level oversight of technical applications allowing the analysis, reporting and distribution of data to central administration partners and University stakeholders. This position is technically focused, emphasizing the development, deployment and use of analytical tools to support ad hoc and cyclical information needs. This position places an emphasis on career development with opportunities for growth in the scope and degree of responsibility, and involves collaboration and coordination with individuals within Academic Personnel, as well as with analysts and technology professionals across the University.
The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate proficiency developing object-oriented software, and be familiar with the configuration and use of servers employing a Linux-Apache-MySQL-PHP (LAMP) web-application architecture. The candidate should be proficient with SQL and have experience with analytical tools used for queries and reporting. This candidate should possess the ability to communicate in both technical and business terms with a variety of constituents, and to work with limited supervision.
Duties and Responsibilities
Develop database-driven web applications and web services.
Plan, document and test all web-based and data-driven applications.
Develop technical expertise and business subject matter knowledge related to both internal Academic Personnel data and central administrative services.
Assist with query development and analysis as necessary for annual and ad-hoc data and reporting needs. Conduct complex data integration and analysis operations involving multiple data sets from a wide variety of data sources.
Special projects and other duties as assigned.
| Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Information Services, or related field with an emphasis on information management |
Plus a minimum of 4 years' experience in the following - managing, developing, and deploying Linux/Apache/MySQL/PHP web applications; Unix/Linux system administration; PHP programming
Comfortable working in an Agile environment
Must have the ability to deal professionally, ethically and legally with confidential data
Excellent analytical skills
Experience with object oriented programming
SQL experience: queries, building databases, database security
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
| Understanding of MVC design patterns and frameworks |
Experience with PHP frameworks (CodeIgnitor, Cake, Slim,Yii, Zend)
Experience with build tools and automated testing (PHPUnit, Jenkins, Phing, Selenium)
Familiarity with Subversion (SVN)
Familiar with REST, JSON, HTTP
