Seeking additional veterinarian. General practice in small animal medicine and surgery located in north central Vermont. Our need is driven by an impending vacancy as well as growth. We currently provide emergency care for our practice, so an interest in that field is a plus (the shifts are shared among LVVS doctors; we rotate evening call and weekend duty, and offset it by having 4 day weeks with regular 4 day weekends). Veterinarians are encouraged and supported in developing areas of interest.
The emergency service side of our practice is being revised; instead of 24/7 we are currently ending call at 10 pm to 8 am and referring to the emergency service in Burlington, with some exceptions (for example employee owned pets, reproduction clients for c-sections, long-term clients, in-house patients); and we are considering having the emergency service become separate from daytime practice.
Willingness to contribute in a group practice is paramount. Desire to practice cutting-edge care while working with clients on reaching mutually tenable solutions for their pets' problems is important.
LVVS was founded in 1985, achieved AAHA certification in 1988, and built a new free-standing hospital in 1998. We have a long history of investing in our people, equipment, and facility. Currently staff numbers 31, including 6 veterinarians (5 clinicians and 1 administrator; we are looking for a replacement clinician), and with support staff working 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. More than 1/2 of the staff has been on board for more than a decade.
Services provided include 1st opinion activities (wellness care, medical case work-ups and management, dentistry, surgery (come learn laparoscopic surgery!), reproductive services, laboratory, imaging, telemedicine, emergency and critical care). We have a canine blood bank on-site with a staff/client owned donor program. Radiographs and ultrasounds can be reviewed by board-certified radiologists if needed.
We have regular in house staff education, and our practice has an advisory (cross sectional in terms of staff positions) steering committee. Our mission is "patient advocacy as a team". Our technical support staff is superb, and our doctors have more time to be doctors as a result.
Lamoille County is a great place to live, and be a veterinarian; although away from many of the elements of the "rat race" there is still plenty of interesting work.
