This individual will support the investment strategy and design of the company’s multi-billion dollar fixed income portfolio. This position is responsible for a broad array of investment analysis that will consider ALM strategy, capital efficiency, and risk/return analysis. The individual will oversee asset/risk modeling, new business pricing, and participate in the financial planning process. Reports to the VP, Investment Officer and there will be significant interaction with other members of the Investments department as well as other functional areas within the Company.
Duties and Responsibilities
Lead the development and evaluation of investment strategies to support the achievement of the financial plan. Incorporate results of asset modeling, reporting, and analysis, ensuring appropriate alignment with goals for ALM, earnings, and capital while managing within Investment Guidelines
Ensure effective communication of investment directives and needs to the Portfolio Management and Trading group in a timely and regular manner, and develop various methods for measuring and reporting on performance of investment activity.
Evaluate investment guidelines in light of market changes and liability needs, identifying opportunities to enhance value while assessing and managing emerging risks in the portfolio.
Independently develop and maintain an in-depth understanding and ownership of Investment modeling and risk systems to support:
Asset cash flow modeling that is used for input into:
Actuarial stochastic modeling process for economic capital, regulatory reporting, etc.
Financial Plan investment projections
Investment strategy/ALM /Accounting systems
Analytical reporting of the investment portfolio for management reporting, rating agency presentations.
Determine risk profile/attributes of the investment portfolio
Support OTTI process, including cashflow modeling support.
Provide analysis of peer companies’ assets, or industry data in support of asset allocation strategies and risk reporting
Experience and Education Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in mathematics, economics, investments or related field
CFA and/or ASA designation preferable
5+ years of investment-related experience
Experience with liability oriented investing (insurance, pension, endowments) preferred
Skills and Abilities
Working knowledge of Excel, Access, Bloomberg, FactSet, or similar modeling and investment systems
Effective verbal and written communication skills
Superior analytical and problem solving skills
Team player who is comfortable working in a dynamic, entrepreneurial environment
