The University of Washington's Finance Transformation Program (UWFT) has an outstanding opportunity for a Senior Financial Business Analyst to participate in the startup of a multi-year effort to transform the UW's existing financial processes through business process redesign and the replacement of legacy systems with modern technology. They will be part of a core program team responsible for defining, and realizing this future state through selection and implementation of a modern core financials ERP. This position will function at the enterprise level, building knowledge and understanding of diverse financial systems and processes, multiple legal entities and business models supporting medicine, education and research.
The incumbent will train, mentor, and oversee the work of multiple business analysts to establish and ensure consistent documentation over the lifetime of the program. They will be primarily responsible for the Business Process Framework and participate in the development of the finance data model. They will be responsible for establishing program standards for documentation and analysis in support of the business process framework, systems landscape strategy and other program priorities. The Senior Financial Business Analyst will work directly with University Department/unit leaders, providing consultation and support in the development, analysis, interpretation and management of a variety of complex internal and external data sources as well as business process areas.
The incumbent draws on expertise in data collection methodologies to support subsequent data analysis, and finance processes and statistics; prepares charts and graphs; applies appropriate statistical tests; provides analytical commentary; and educates analytical concepts in an understandable and actionable manner. The Senior Financial Business Analyst operates under general or minimum supervision, and performs duties with broad latitude for exercising independent judgment.
The position is responsible for managing and executing the business components of a complex enterprise wide project that bridges business and technology. The incumbent will work at the enterprise level across multiple legal entities of the University, multiple complex financial systems, multiple business models (medicine, education, research) and multiple systems at the enterprise and various legal entity levels. As one of the first few positions on what is a five to eight year program, the incumbent will be responsible for a start-up that will require strong initiative, drive, creativity and awareness of the ability to operate in a environment of ambiguity. The position requires a demonstrated ability to quickly climb the learning curve on new concepts and technology. Project work will be focused on documenting and analyzing as is financial business processes and envisioning to be process future state. Incumbent will facilitate a process team of subject matter experts in the realization of the to be process state. The incumbent will define and design business process improvements and identifying related policy and process changes necessary to support improvements, internal control compliance, and audit requirements. Project work will also involve defining workflow requirements, modeling data, and defining metadata. This work will be addressed at both a UW department level and for the enterprise implementation of the new financial system. The position requires competence in a diverse set of skills and knowledge of University systems and business processes including: day to day operations management for a school, department or unit; financial operations including budget management, payroll, purchasing, travel, and reconciliation; grants management and financial systems implementations.
This position requires demonstrated ability or experience working with senior leadership as well as all levels of staff, and must be able to communicate effectively (written and verbally) to all. Requires a strong blend of technical/process skills, leadership and group facilitation. Must have strong organizational skills to prioritize a diverse workload. This position will work in a matrixed environment providing oversight to multiple business analysts doing work on the financial business process documentation. Requires demonstrated problem-solving skills and the ability to approach complex issues and relationships with finesse, patience, tact and confidentiality.
Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business administration or other related area.
Nine or more years of experience doing progressively more complex business and financial analysis within a project or program environment such as scope definition, requirements gathering, business process re-engineering, etc.
Significant understanding of financial terms, business processes, and financial reporting.
Experience with business process documentation including key deliverables and related analysis and business process improvement.
Self-starter and able to manage multiple priorities and tasks in a dynamic environment.
Demonstrated excellent written/oral communication skills, technical documentation skills, user liaison skills, and personal interaction abilities. Ability to communicate across diverse audiences ranging from business leadership to technical developers.
Advanced ability to develop efficient and effective analytic methodologies and approaches to generate value, address a broad range of operational and performance issues, execute the analysis in a timely, accurate and reliable manner, communicate findings clearly and concisely to diverse business leaders, key contributors and stakeholders.
Demonstrated knowledge of financial subject matter with experience identifying and driving consistent, standard, financial policies, processes and internal controls.

Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration. Expertise with SharePoint (or similar project management tools), spreadsheet, word processing and presentation applications.
Experience with a major audit, accounting or consulting firm.
Experience in a large university, large medical center, or other large complex enterprise.
Knowledge and experience developing/implementing enterprise level software systems in support of administrative or operational needs.
Experience dealing with organizational change management.
Demonstrated success in facilitating work groups and ability to develop consensus.
Previous experience in a lead business analyst role or as key point of contact.
Previous experience with higher education financial and/or budget processes.
Experience with system implementation deliverables and related analysis, including scope definition, requirements gathering, business process re-engineering, it-gap analysis, total cost of ownership and benefits analysis.
