Plan, administer, assess, and promote a comprehensive group fitness program that is aligned with industry standards.
Ensure group exercise program is running at the highest level possible, create a positive impact for participants, and monitor development of the fitness instructor. Fill in as a substitute instructor for group fitness classes when required. Create the group exercise schedule every Fall, Spring, and Summer with minimum of 40 classes to ensure maximum draw and usage, along with direct supervision of approximately 10-15 group fitness instructors. Must keep abreast of current research, trends, and best practices in the fitness industry. Develop risk management policies to ensure safe and accessible spaces along with coordination of periodic in-service training. Provide close supervision and mentorship of instructors, quality of classes being taught through evaluation, and cleanliness of facilities and equipment. Maintains record of CEC requirements for certifications and CPR/AED for group exercise instructors. Management of ID Checkers for group exercise classes which provide constant monitoring for safety, counts, room usage, cleanliness, and a channel of communication for every class. Answer phone calls and emails pertaining to fitness program and recruitment of new instructors. Organize and instruct Fitness Instructor Training every Fall as recruitment tool for new instructors. Establish the University Recreation Center as a certification site for fitness instructors offering accredited certification and continuing education credits for students and community members through hosting AFAA annually. Management of fitness operating budget while maintaining expenditures within budgetary restraints. Performs other duties assigned.
Bachelor’s degree in Recreation, Exercise Science, or a related field and four (4) years of professional experience, or a Master’s degree in Recreation, Exercise Science, or a related field and two (2) years of professional experience. The Assistant Director of Fitness requires current certification in CPR/AED and one or more of the following: AFAA, ACE, Cooper, or equivalent.
Master's degree and previous experience in programming, group fitness instruction, personal training, fitness assessment, and staff supervision.
