Carilion Clinic is seeking a strategic and dynamic human resources leader to be an integral member of the human resources team. The successful candidate will serve as a business partner and trusted advisor partnering with Carilion Clinic leadership guiding strategic initiatives, employee engagement and organizational effectiveness to achieve business results. The Human Resources Business Director (HRBD) consults with leaders and develops strategies that position the business to have a competitive advantage in the market.
They must build rapport and establish a high level of credibility with leaders and clients across the organization. The HRBD will anticipate needs and successfully align HR and staffing strategies with business unit goals and overall Carilion Clinic objectives. This position maintains close working relationship with HR colleagues in order to utilize centralized HR expertise in the Centers of Expertise (COE) and in HR Operations, as well as with external vendors. Travel may be required.
Serves as an integral part of the leadership team understanding the business unit's performance and strategy. Utilizes a keen understanding of business operations and the human landscape to predict impact of and drive processes to successfully realize desired outcomes of strategy. Builds rapport and establishes a high level of credibility with business partners. Coaches leaders at various levels throughout the organization.
Develops or enhances organizational effectiveness to achieve business results. Partners with leaders to develop strategies that position the organization and business unit at a competitive advantage in the market with regard to both a financial and people perspective.
Enhances the success of the business unit by thoroughly understanding and articulating the benefits of initiatives to leadership and staff, and employing effective change management strategies. Educates and guides colleagues on effective change management techniques and processes. Supports the business unit leadership in creating a culture that is consistent with organizational business strategies and culture.
Uses systems thinking to recognize issues, synthesize, analyze, problem solve, evaluate, in decision-making and formulate breakthrough strategies and business plans for improvement and growth. Provides business resource plans including analyzing and planning for resourcing, defining resource requirements and the management of individual performance and rewards recommendations.
Ensures that the people-perspective is included in all business decisions and that there is an understanding of decision implications. Proactively helps to manage the workforce. Challenges leadership when appropriate using HR's knowledge of the workforce population and regulations. Anticipates conflicts and plans accordingly, persists in spite of resistance.
Ensures that Human Resources systems and processes are aligned and support organizational goals. Sets and/or monitors progress in retention, compensation, training and development, recruitment and hiring targets. Facilitates interactions between leaders and the Human Resources Centers of Expertise (COE) as new products and/or policies are being designed and implemented. Partners and consults with regard to Merger & Acquisition activities with a focus on people-related considerations.

JOB SCOPE: This position will interact with individuals at all organizational levels and will be responsible for making and guiding decisions on financial and operational matters. Access to confidential information is a routine part of the job. An effective executive presence and communication style are needed to successfully influence leadership decisions. Minimum Qualifications Required
EDUCATION: Bachelor's degree in Business, Human Resources or related field required. Master's degree in Human Resources or Business strongly preferred.
EXPERIENCE: 3 plus years of experience as an HR Business Partner supporting leaders at a strategic level or equivalent. 7 years of HR experience required.
LICENSURE/REGISTRY/CERTIFICATION: Professional certification (PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP SHRM-SCP) preferred.
