Under the direction of the EOP Lead Academic Counselor & Assistant Vice Provost for Student Success, the Undocumented Student Services Coordinator/EOP Senior Counselor (USSC/ESC) provides direct services and coordinates programs to support the academic success, retention and graduation of undocumented students. The incumbent provides academic and personal counseling/guidance and manages student cases to propel their development and success as university students. This position is based at of the Educational Opportunity Programs (EOP) office and works with the undocumented student community across the campus. In addition, the USSC/ESC collaborates with campus partners including the Colleges, Academic Departments, faculty, student service units and student organizations on retention/student success initiatives. The incumbent is readily accessible to faculty, staff, students and parents/family members and coordinates communication and student case management. The USSC/ESC conducts project management including data collection, evaluation and reporting. The incumbent will supervise and train student staff and engage in professional development to implement best practices and research based methodologies. This position serves as the coordinator and resident expert on supporting retention/graduation/student initiatives for the undocumented student community at UCSC.
Masters degree in education, counseling, social work or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
At least three years full-time career level experience and achievement advising and/or counseling students who are undocumented, first-generation to college, low-income, underrepresented, non-traditional and/or have immigrant backgrounds.
Knowledgeable and experienced with issues related to undocumented students entering and continuing through higher education programs.
Excellent interpersonal, communication and conflict resolution skills.
Multicultural competency and experience advising diverse groups of students with special emphasis on immigrant and undocumented students.
