Villanova University is a Catholic University in the Augustinian intellectual tradition. The Villanova School of Business (VSB) is one of six colleges located in the University. VSB offers seven undergraduate degree programs and seven graduate degree programs, including a Master of Science in Church Management (MSCM). The school is also home to six centers of excellence, including the Center for Church Management & Business Ethics (CCMBE).
The faculty director oversees all aspects of the CCMBE related to Church Management and also serves as the faculty director of the MSCM degree. As the faculty director the individual reports directly to the Dean of the Villanova School of Business. As the faculty director of the M.S. in Church Management the individual reports to the Associate Dean, Graduate and Executive Programs. The faculty director works in conjunction with the faculty director of Business Ethics to help steer the overall direction of the CCMBE.
Both positions also interact with other university administrators including the registrar and financial aid office and with the Villanova School of Business Director, Finance & Administration.
The only direct report is the individual who holds the dual role of staff director of the CCMBE and MSCM degree.
The position is supported by an Advisory Council.
As a VSB faculty member with a tenure- track or non-tenure track appointment, he/she will be assigned to a VSB department and evaluated by the department chair on teaching, research, administration, and service to VSB.

Duties and Responsibilities
As faculty director the individual works closely with the staff director of the CCMBE and is responsible for research activities and non-degree educational programs related to church management, as well as raising funding to support these responsibilities. Specifically these include:
Advisory Council. Organizing and recruiting members for the Centers Advisory Council, meeting with the Council at least twice a year to solicit their strategic and tactical advice, and consulting with individual Council members on specific issues that dont require the attention of the full Council.
Funding. Securing funding for the Centers programs by submitting grant proposals to foundations and by actively participating in institutional advancement activities that present themselves, either through University or College contacts or contacts derived from other sources, such as Advisory Council members. In no event, however, is the faculty director allowed to approach a potential donor without first notifying the appropriate University officer.
Programs. Organizing all of the Centers church management non-degree offerings, including on-campus certificate programs, on-site programs for both dioceses and seminaries, webinars, workshops, and guest speakers. This involves:
-Selecting the topics
-Recruiting qualified presenters
-Ensuring the financial stability of each program
-Securing a site
-Taking advantage of technology opportunities
-Generating and placing advertising in the appropriate media
-Grading participants work in programs awarding certificates
Research. Directing all of the Centers research activities, to include both academic and applied research projects that appear in both academic and non-academic outlets. This may involve recruiting individuals to join the Center as Research Fellows to work on specific research topics.
Conferences. Representing the Center at professional and academic conferences, such as those sponsored by the Diocesan Fiscal Managers Conference, National Association for Lay Ministry, International Catholic Stewardship Council, and Conference for Pastoral Planning and Council Development, to name just a few. Representing the Center by serving as a resource to other church-related organizations concerned with church management issues.
Consulting. From time to time the Center is approached to perform consulting for various church organizations. The faculty director is responsible for recruiting qualified individuals to conduct the consultation.
Newsletter. The faculty director is responsible for acquiring articles for the Centers electronically-distributed quarterly newsletter, including those written by the faculty director him/herself, and for expanding the newsletters mailing list.
Responding to Media Requests. The faculty director is expected to be responsive to media requests for information on current church-management topics, either by responding directly or by identifying someone with the appropriate expertise to respond on behalf of the Center.
Other. Maintain on-going non-credit programming with seminaries, Catholic Relief Services and the Diocesan Fiscal Management Conference
As faculty director of the M.S. in Church Management the individual works closely with the administrative director and is responsible for:
Curriculum. Maintaining and updating the curriculum, including adding courses as the program grows and scheduling all courses.
Faculty. Recruiting both full-time faculty and adjunct faculty to teach in the program. These faculty tend to be highly specialized, with an expertise in a functional business discipline along with a sensitivity for applying that discipline in a faith-based context. They must also be willing to teach on-line. This responsibility includes:
-Complete all of the administrative details involved with hiring faculty
-Ensuring that the faculty are trained to use the Universitys distance learning technology
-Actively engage in performance management with each faculty member
Students. Recruiting and retaining all students for the program. This includes:
-Working with VSBs Office of Communication and Marketing to prepare the content for all advertising materials, including brochures and media ads, and placing ads in the appropriate media
-Responding to all requests for information
-Chairing the admissions committee and notifying applicants of the decision.
-Chairing the academic standing committee
-Making decisions on transfer credit requests
-Organizing the summer residency week for all incoming students that is held in conjunction with the Leadership/Ethics/Catholic Social Thought course
Accreditation. Working with other VSB administrators to monitor the AACSBs Assurance of Learning in every MSCM course and participating in the writing of the reaccreditation report during reaccreditation years.
Other Organizations. Maintaining relationships with organizations such as Catholic Relief Services; other graduate programs, such as Villanovas Department of Theology and Religious Education, who exchanges transfer credits with the MSCM; foreign collaborations such as those with Pontifical Lateran University, Pontifical University of the Holy Cross and Ruhr University at Bochum; and negotiating specific relationships with arch/dioceses participating in the Centers programs
Understanding of the unique challenges of managing in a faith-based environment. Commitment to the concept of distance learning and other technologically-based educational delivery systems as educational tools.
Open to applicants from all business disciplines.
Advanced degree and demonstrated potential to conduct research on topics pertinent to church management. A Ph.D. is required to be appointed as a tenure-track faculty member. Previous administrative experience preferred.
