The successful candidate will be responsible for assisting with the management of transportation safety and mobility, as well as other related automotive research and outreach projects located in the Phoenix area. The successful candidate will work closely with several key domain experts to assist in coordinating all activities of the Center for Vulnerable Road User Safety (CVRUS). The successful candidate will independently plan, schedule, conduct, and coordinate detailed tasks as part of ground-breaking transportation safety and human factors engineering projects as well as administrative tasks in support of VTTI management. A successful candidate will contribute to research conceptualization, proposal development, resource acquisition, asset, timeline, vehicle hardware installations, research volunteer/participant management, and budget tracking. Successful applicant will serve as the point of contact for studies in Phoenix and may interact with sponsors, interpret findings, prepare reports, and presentations. Work requires a broad knowledge of precedents and practices in the human research domain. Knowledge of vehicle electronics is desired. This position will hold the special research faculty rank of Project Associate.
Duties and responsibilities:
-Responsible for day to day project management
-Assist with the development of research protocols
-Interface with human subjects/participants, including screening, scheduling, running protocols, and debriefing
-Serves as point of contact and interacts with sponsors
-Manage project budget and timelines to ensure work can be completed without cost overruns or unwarranted delays
-Work with center faculty and staff to standardize project documentation procedures
-Contributes to proposal and report development
-Research, write, review, and critique proposals, research plans, and final reports
-Organize, attend, and participate in meetings
-Conceptualize and compose work plans
-Prepare research findings
-Collaborates on research studies as needed
-Serve as an experimenter as needed
-Complete other administrative assignments as directed
-Ability to install and de-install electronic equipment in a variety of motor vehicles, desired
Directions given and received:
Independently performs most assignments with instructions as to the general results expected. Receives technical guidance on unusual or complex problems and supervisory approval on proposed plans for projects. May supervise or coordinate the work of graduate research assistants, technicians, and others who assist in specific assignments.
-Master’s degree in experimental psychology, engineering, or management information systems with exception for lesser degree and significant experience.
-Supervisory experience including developing procedures.
-Demonstrated significant project management experience in conducting moderately complex research projects in an academic, industrial, or governmental environment
-Experience developing and reporting on key project metrics
-Proficiency using computers and Microsoft Office Suite for business or scientific use
-Excellent written and oral communication skills
-Proficiency working independently as well as with a team
