| Reporting jointly to the University Director of Financial Aid and the Medical School Associate Dean for Admissions and Financial Aid, the YSM Director of Financial Aid is responsible for providing quality customer service to all prospective and current students, parents, faculty members, counselors, extended family members, etc., through all methods of communication. Provides leadership and expertise in financial aid for the medical and physician assistant (PA) students and manages the delivery of financial aid services through development, implementation, and maintenance of a comprehensive program from federal, state, institutional, and private sources.|
This position will lead and be responsible for all activities related to the Yale School of Medicine Office of Financial Aid, including the daily direction of two administrative staffs. The Office of Financial Aid currently services ~600 medical and PA students and interacts with prospective, and past students concerning all matters related to financing a Yale education.
The YSM Director of Financial Aid must be conversant with all forms and matters of financial aid (scholarships, grants, loans, and jobs) and is responsible for putting together financial aid recommendations and packages for Yale medical and PA students.
In addition, the YSM Director of Financial Aid assumes a leadership role in educating students about financial aid policies and providing assistance to Yale students with student billing statements, loan application procedures, the online FAFSA, Need Access and Profile forms, and any other aspect of the financial aid application process.

Required Skill/ability 1: Proven ability to provide financial aid services in an institution of higher education.
Required Skill/ability 2: Demonstrated skills leading project or team by communicating effectively, problem solving, and motivating team members. Customer service experience is required. Customer service experience in an academic environment preferred.
Required Skill/ability 3: Strong interpersonal skills; proven ability to communicate effectively with diverse populations. Candidate must be empathetic to students during possible difficult and sometimes emotional financial situations.
Required Skill/ability 4: Demonstrated proficiency in Excel with the ability to manipulate and understand data sets and Excel formulas. Proven experience in preparing reports, budget projections, and what-if scenarios.
Required Skill/ability 5: Superior organizational, problem resolution skills and time management skills.
Preferred Education, Experience and Skills: Demonstrated experience providing financial aid services at the graduate and/or professional school level.
