Performance Monitoring and Accountability 2020 (PMA2020) uses innovative mobile technology to support low-cost, rapid-turnaround household and facility surveys to monitor key indicators for family planning, water and sanitation, and other health areas. The project is led by the Bill and Melinda Gates Institute for Population Health at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, and implemented by local university and research organizations in 10 countries in Africa and Asia, deploying a cadre of local female data collectors trained in mobile-assisted data collection. PMA2020 establishes a sentinel data collection platform that transforms the way health survey data is collected and represents a platform that may be utilized for monitoring a range of health program areas in future modules.
Responsible for supporting PMA2020 data dissemination/utilization and business development activities with a strategic communications plan. Serve as lead communications liaison with partner organizations, advocates, policymakers, and NGOs; develop effective relationships with project partners to maximize implementation and impact of communication materials as part of dissemination efforts; develop and implement the project's communications strategy; and plan and execute international communications outreach and other communications activities. Write original content to effectively communicate results of project to a wider audience. Perform writing and editing as needed; work in conjunction with country program leads and other project team members to develop and implement dissemination strategies; and collaborate with Advance Family Planning (AFP), their in-country networks, and other national and international advocacy organizations to promote PMA2020 data utilization in their advocacy efforts.
Lead efforts to revamp and redesign the project's website and conduct an exhaustive audience analysis to improve the reach and effectiveness of the current project deliverables and critically assess the need for new publications and communications outputs.
Plan and execute release and dissemination of PMA2020 reports and other materials via a wide range of platforms. Primary liaison with PMA2020's overseas partners and international organizations regarding communications efforts. Lead efforts to redesign the website and consult on the refinement of the project's data visualization Platform. Manage communications budget. Supervise 1 full-time Communications Specialist and any student workers on communications. Develop proactive and reactive media strategies to obtain widespread media coverage for PMA2020. Identify and coordinate participation by PMA2020 staff and partners in key meetings and Conferences. Manage communications activities outlined in partner scopes of work, including schedules of Deliverables. Work with advocacy partners to develop policy and research briefs. Coordinate outreach to partners and development of materials with project leadership for marketing both the data produced and the data collection platform. Work closely with PMA2020 Business Development Office to represent PMA2020 at external Meetings. Write and distribute press releases, op-eds, factsheets, pitch letters, staff bios, backgrounders, social media messages, and other press materials in English and French. Increase PMA2020's visibility in international and regional media outlets, including French-language media. Liaise with the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health's Office of communications. Extensive travel internationally may be required.
