THE DEPARTMENT OF CHEMISTRY AND BIOCHEMISTRY at UC San Diego (http://chemistry.ucsd.edu/) invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in physical and environmental chemistry. Candidates who envision close connections with a campus-wide initiative, Understanding and Protecting the Planet are strongly encouraged to apply. This initiative has catalyzed collaborative research among faculty in physical and social sciences, engineering, and the Scripps Institution of Oceanography to address major environmental challenges (see for example, http://caice.ucsd.edu/). Research proposals based on physical chemistry (e.g. studies of interfacial, condensed phase, or photochemical/photophysical processes), or those that bridge with biological/health sciences (e.g. atmospheric toxicology, microbial-climate interactions) are among those that are strongly encouraged. All positions are subject to budget approval.
Candidates must have a Ph.D., a strong record of research accomplishment, and an innovative research plan. Teaching in general or physical chemistry will be expected. Ideally, the candidates would also have skills and interest in teaching environmental and analytical chemistry at the graduate and undergraduate levels.
