Facilities Services (FS) is a world-class organization providing exceptional services anywhere, anytime in support of the University of Washington's mission of teaching, research, and discovery. FS engages employees through LEAN practices and continuous improvement. FS includes eight departments that operate, maintain and support the University: Administration & Strategic Initiatives (AVP), Building Services Department (BSD), Campus Engineering & Operations (CE&O), Facilities Employee Services (FES), Facilities Maintenance & Construction (FMC), Finance and Business Services (FABS), Transportations Services (TS), and UW Emergency Management (EM).
Facilities Employee Services has an outstanding opportunity for a Training and Organizational Development Specialist.
Under general direction of the Training and Recruitment Manager, this position will design, conduct, and administer training sessions on a wide range of topics. This position will also manage daily training facilities operations by preparing classrooms and materials, administering learning management software, and providing excellent customer service to all employees and guests. This position will require diplomacy, tact and emotional maturity as well as sufficient business and political acumen to navigate in the changing world of the FS Training Center. This position requires a high level of customer service, and affords an opportunity to move the organization towards a culture of internal development.
Duties and Responsibilities
Deliver group and individual instruction and training covering a range of technical, operational, and/or management areas.
Routinely evaluates training effectiveness and ensure employee development is sustained.
Develop training curricula and recommend or utilize vendor programs which meet instructional goals and objectives.
Develop and oversee the production of classroom and instructional handouts.
Drive the adoption of and positively shape the attitude towards continuous individual development within the organization.
Assist in analyzing and assessing training and development needs for individuals, job classes, and/or departments.
Assist in reviewing instructor performance and recommend improvements to program content and/or instructor presentation methods.
Become a subject matter expert when required and assist in training future trainers.
Coordinate administrative functions necessary to predict, deliver, and document required and elective training courses.
Manage Training Center calendar and operations.
Create lasting positive impressions on all guests as the Training Center's forward facing point of contact.
Build and maintain databases of materials, resources, and courses available at the Training Center.
Write, edit, and refine communications regarding the Training Center.
Shape a culture of learning at Facilities Services with a passionate and energetic delivery of training courses, presentations, and customer service.

About Facilities Employees Services
Facilities Employee Services is comprised of four strategic business units focused on providing world class expertise and service to the largest organization on upper campus. Human Resources assists FS departments in managing leave administration, employee performance, rewards and recognition, labor relations, UW and FS policies and procedures. Payroll manages the payroll administration for 1100 employees and provides strategic data to FS leaders to manage their payroll related costs. Employee Safety oversees safety related training, safety policies and procedures for the organization as well as providing guidance and expertise to our campus partners. The FS Training Academy is housed in our brand new state-of-the-art facility and the training staff develops employees to serve and preserve the university community. These four units are instrumental in contributing to the department and organization Balanced Scorecard and Lean initiatives.
| Bachelor's Degree and three to five years' experience in Education, Training, Communications, or related fields. |
Experience developing, implementing and maintaining training courses for large and diverse organizations.
Demonstrated and accomplished experience delivering presentations to groups of various sizes.
Demonstrated ability to multitask, prioritize and manage competing and conflicting deadlines.
Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive and confidential personnel and policy information with discretion.
Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office software (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) and other advanced digital tools.
Possess excellent organizational, verbal and written communication skills, and experience coordinating and facilitating meetings.
Possess successful experience working and interacting with high-level decision-makers, as well as a diverse staff and clientele.
Ability to deliver excellent customer service as the forward facing point of contact for internal and external partners.
Demonstrated flexibility and ability to work both independently, with a high degree of professional judgment and little direct supervision, and as part of a team with proven administrative and problem-solving skills.
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
| Experience with metric based process improvement systems (i.e. Lean). |
Experience in a Human Resources department within a 1000 + employee workforce and collective bargaining environment.
Experience delivering Washington State Labor & Industries approved safety training.
