Strategy and Information Management (SIM), a unit within the Office of the Vice Provost for Academic Personnel, supports the Provost as well as the University of Washington community, providing strategy and information management including analytical support for data and processes affecting the University's faculty, librarians, and academic staff.
We have an outstanding opportunity for a Project Manager. This position's purpose is to provide project management to initiatives within Academic Personnel (AP) and to consistently manage activities, scheduling, cross-team resource demand, and recommend (in consultation with supervisor and other members of AP) project scheduling, resource needs, and budget impacts. This position requires the ability to manage multiple small and medium projects using standard Project Management skills; strong communication and coordination appropriate to a wide range of audiences. The expected demand for the Project Manager is largely focused on non-technical activities, and requires the ability to facilitate productive meetings, project planning and follow common project delivery methodologies.
As part of SIM's preparation for the upcoming implementation of the UW's new HR/Payroll system and of AP's ongoing business services, the Project Manager is responsible for supporting projects, ensuring AP cross-team coordination and scheduling of project related work, including aligning internal and external schedules to ensure work is completed on time.
Under general supervision and guidance from the Director for AP Strategic Information Management, the Project Manager is expected to:
Manage and coordinate multiple project meeting facilitation and post-meeting communication/follow-up.
Monitor and track issue management and facilitation of resolution.
Ensure and maintain documentation of Project Management approach for individual projects, as well as propose and implement recommendations for improvements.
Manage communication and resource scheduling, including status reporting.
| Bachelor's degree in communications, information technology, business management or closely related field; |
Four years of relevant work experience, including experience in the following areas:
-Leading multiple simultaneous projects of small to medium complexity and within a defined budget;
-Overseeing diverse tasks resulting in the completion of departmental projects, ranging from 1-5 simultaneous initiatives;
-Meeting with project owner(s), setting specifications or determine a higher standard;
-Updating information on the project management development, tools and progress to stakeholders;
-Suggesting strategies for achieving project goals to the owner;
-Convening a proficient team to achieve the purpose of the work in a changing or fixed environment utilizing leadership and management skills;
-Communicating rules, expectations and responsibilities to members of the working team and ensure applicable laws and UW policies are followed as advised by the project owner(s)
Project Management Professional (PMP) or Scrum Master certification;
Equivalent applicable experience can substitute for degree or certification requirements.

Previous Higher Education experience.
