University of Pittsburgh Maternal-Fetal Medicine: Assistant / Associate Professors
The University of Pittsburgh, Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology, and Reproductive Sciences and University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC) are seeking an outstanding academic physician to join our 13 faculty members in the Division of Maternal-Fetal Medicine. Positions at the rank of Assistant and Associate Professor are open. Ranked among the best OBGYN depa1tments in the nation, the department is nationally recognized for its excellence in clinical care, research, and education. Candidates must possess excellent clinical skills and a commitment to education consistent with the academic mission of the University of Pittsburgh. The Division supports the Maternal-Fetal Medicine fellowship program approved to accept three fellows each year. Faculty can take advantage of the University of Pittsburgh Clinical and Translational Science Institute programs and the commitment to faculty development by the University of-Pittsburgh and UPMC. Magee-Womens Research Institute is the largest independent research institute in the world focused solely on women's health research. Our research scief.ltists are engaged in health research that spans reproductive biology and development and diverse aspects of women's health. Key processes and diseases that span a woman's entire life cycle are pursued from the formation of germ cells and embryos through childhood and adolescence to reproductive life, pregnancy, menopause, and aging. We have a busy Center for Advanced Fetal Diagnosis, and interested candidates will have the opportunity to be involved in the research and clinical activities of that program as well. Other clinical and research activities will depend on the candidate's background, skills and interests; we encourage opportunities for individual academic career development.
Pittsburgh is a rejuvenated community nestled at the junction of the Allegheny and Monongahela rivers in the rolling hills of Western Pennsylvania. It boasts three professional athletic teams, the Steelers, the Pirates, and the Penguins, not to mention the strong local support of the University of Pittsburgh Panthers. It has marked cultural diversity from the collection of Old Masters in the Carnegie Museum of Art or the Broadway musicals presented by the Civic Light Opera to the world-class Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra. Recreational activities are easily accessible including camping and hiking in nearby State and National Forests, fishing and boating on the three rivers and surrounding lakes, whitewater rafting in Pennsylvania or nearby West Virginia,
or downhill skiing an hour's drive from the city on Laurel Mountain. The city is a patch-work of ethnically diverse neighborhoods with a very reasonable cost of living and an open and friendly populace. Pittsburgh is a big little city where both urban sophisticates and small town folks can easily feel at home.
The successful candidate will have a balance of clinical and scholarly activities. The Division's clinical scope is broad, including coverage of the antepartum service and labor and delivery, obstetrical ultrasound, prenatal diagnosis procedures, and perinatal consultation. Excellent communication skills and ability to function in a consultative role are required. Successful candidates must be board certified in MFM, or at a career stage appropriate to be considered for candidacy for board certification. Candidates must possess an MD or DO. Academic rank and salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
