ENVIRONMENT, HEALTH AND SAFETY (EHS) AND FACILITIES COORDINATOR, Center for Materials Science and Engineering (CMSE), to oversee the day-to-day EHS and facilities activities within CMSE and Materials Processing Center (MPC). Will maintain operational, day-to-day oversight to implement the EHS management system and serve as the chemical hygiene officer; monitor lab compliance with EHS laws and regulations and MIT best practices and insure implementation; serve as the primary contact for EHS and facilities issues, respond to and follow up on emergencies, and assist with managing/coordinating facilities-related projects/activities (e.g., lab renovations, lab access control systems, facility shutdowns, and emergency response plans); serve as liaison with facilities project managers, contractors, and faculty on renovation and infrastructure projects; oversee EHS-related data/records; assure that personnel receive appropriate EHS training and keep training records current; conduct periodic inspections/audits of all labs and facilities; work closely with the departmental facilities managers whose faculty occupy space in CMSE- and MPC-managed areas. Will also monitor the level of office and laboratory space usage and periodically report assessments to the directors of the MPC and CMSE.
REQUIRED: undergraduate degree in engineering or science; at least two years' relevant experience in or involvement with laboratory/research processes; professional certification in EHS field or at least two years' relevant experience in EHS compliance; excellent organizational, administrative, and problem solving skills; self-motivation; flexibility; ability to set and achieve priorities, follow-through on tasks, work in teams and motivate groups, multitask in a fast-paced work environment with changing priorities and limited supervision; accuracy and an eye for detail; diplomacy, tact, and good judgment; and proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, and ability to learn specialized computer applications for EHS requirements.
