Under the supervision of the Manager of Institutional Research and Data Analytics, assists the Graduate Division in maintaining and analyzing the data and systems necessary to make sound administrative and academic decisions related to graduate education at the University. Incumbent performs user and data-driven research to make recommendations impacting business processes, workflow, policy, and systems impacting graduate education at the University. Responsibilities include: conducting data analysis to support various functions of the Graduate Division; assisting in the design and implementation of research into issues affecting graduate education at the University; collaborating with and providing user training for other staff to produce reports on aspects of graduate education; reviewing data prior to loading into database and verifying it for accuracy. Also responds to requests from campus departments, Office of the Chancellor, UCOP and other organizations for reports and information relevant to graduate academic planning & research.
Expertise in qualitative and quantitative research methodology, especially as it relates to higher education and graduate student development settings.
Extensive training and experience in complex data analysis, documentation and data modeling.
Skill in writing analytical and technical reports.
In depth working knowledge of SPSS, and other statistical software.
Skill in designing and implementing surveys, particularly in a web-based environment.
Ability to analyze data, evaluate programs and procedures, interpret information in order to convey consequences and recommend courses of action; skills to analyze data, conduct complex analyses, explain analytic methodology and report accurate results and study implications.
Strong set of broad technical skills and expertise with data management software including Cognos, Access, Crystal Reports, Excel, PowerPoint, Word and other comparable software to analyze, organize and present data.
Demonstrated working knowledge of SQL (structured query language), and high level programming in Access to build database front ends; knowledge of relational database management systems and designing technology-driven solutions for Knowledge of web-based analytic systems (including Google Analytics).administrative and research issues.
Ability to speak formally and informally by making prepared and extemporaneous presentations to individuals and groups in order to provide information, explain procedures and persuade others; ability to communicate information in a clear, concise manner to faculty, staff and agencies within and outside the University.
Bachelor's degree or equivalent education and experience required; MA or MS preferred.
Working knowledge and experience building and using web-based data dashboards and visualizations such as Tableau.
