NATURE OF WORK:
The part-time Pharmacist will ensure the delivery of safe, quality pharmacy-centered patient care. The Pharmacist contributes to the accomplishment of initiatives to improve patient access to safe, affordable, and appropriate medication therapy. This position will involve a work schedule of 20 hours per week during the Pharmacy's hours of operation, which are M - S 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
ILLUSTRATIVE EXAMPLES OF WORK:
Reviews and evaluates individual drug orders for appropriateness, safety, and cost.
Documents the care provided to patients.
Prepares and quality-checks medications prior to dispensing to the patient. Ensures medications reach the patient in the correct form and dose which may include tablets, capsules, ointments, injections, inhalers and creams.
Ensures the accurate dispensing and timely distribution of drugs and medicines for patients.
Supervises, organizes and checks the work of pharmacy technicians and pharmacy interns.
Responds to medication-related queries from within the learning environment and general public.
Participates in medication therapy management, takes patient drug histories and contributes to the treatment decision-making process. This includes highlighting a drug's potential side effects, identifying harmful interactions with other drugs and assessing the suitability of treatments for patients with particular health conditions.
Liaises with physicians, nurses and other fellow health care professionals to ensure the delivery of safe, effective and economic drug treatment.
Counsels patients on the effects, dosage and route of administration of their drug treatments, particularly those who require complex drug therapy.
Monitors every stage of medication therapy to improve all aspects of delivery and reporting patient side effects.
Promotes safe and cost effective pharmaceutical utilization and quality care initiatives to enhance patient safety and positive outcomes.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
The successful candidate will have current licensure from the Pennsylvania Board of Pharmacy to practice pharmacy in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and have related work experience. Alternately, the successful candidate may possess any equivalent combination of experience and training, which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities required to perform the essential job functions. This includes, but is not limited to, the following: demonstrated willingness to be flexible and team focused; ability to work independently in a challenging and fluid clinical environment; demonstrated knowledge and understanding of 340B program guidelines, patient assistance programs and indigent care initiatives as well as ability to assess, prioritize, plan and implement interventions in accordance with all state and federal laws and University policies and in accordance with the standards of professional pharmacy practice; ability to work collaboratively with other team members the Pharmacists to perform duties consistent with his/her scope of practice and function within the philosophy and overall plan of patient care delivery; interpersonal skills that support the vision, mission and values of the University and The Center for Pharmacy Services; ability to work proactively with the Mylan School of Pharmacy leadership in promoting the Center for Pharmacy Services patient centered pharmacy care mission; Sensitivity to the need of each individual to be treated with dignity and respect as it relates to diversity in general and the Mission of the University specifically; and the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the University Community.
