Information and Technology Services (ITS) at the University of Michigan has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Software Engineer. Responsibilities include participating in multiple projects, including large and complex software development projects, which require technical proficiency in network and database technologies. Provide leadership, creativity, and strategy in the development of open source projects (e.g. perfSONAR). Collaborate with multi-institutional team members to develop, design, and create monitoring, metrics, and software control of its campus networks to assist UM in supporting data intensive science initiatives. Develop and lead a wide range of software-defined, network-related (SDN) projects. Assist with proof-of-concept demonstrations of new network technologies, ensuring integrity, testing, and effectiveness. Design, develop, integrate and implement of a wide range of network-related software projects, including projects related to network monitoring and troubleshooting, software-define networking, etc. including but not limited to leveraging open source software and cloud-based services.
*Develop, test, and validate software solutions for network systems to support the needs of researchers, student, faculty and staff.
*Participate in proof-of-concept demonstrations of new network technologies and may present information to various committees, groups, etc.
*Proactively seek information and utilize analytical and creative problem solving skills along with standard processes and technologies resulting in efficient triage and resolution of reported problems and requests.
*Develop, prepare and publish detailed documents for completed designs that includes diagnostic software and training for technical and operational teams.
*Provide accurate technical information for the development of grant proposals, RFPs, etc.
*Interact and collaborate with engineers and researchers at GEANT, Internet2, Indiana University, ESnet, as well as from other academic institutions.
*Demonstrate relationship building, effective communication skills, and quality service in the process of collaborating with, supporting, advising, and educating customers, team members, and other University departments on the use of the various network tools resulting in efficient, effective, and compliant use of the network service.
*Collaborate with the potential new users of the network, development teams, and the engineering team at the UM and other collaborative areas such as other colleges, Internet2, etc.
*Represent UM at industry and affiliate conferences, meetings and events.
*Develop and maintain relationships in the network software development community.

*Demonstrated experience with software and systems interactions with networks; familiarity with Software-Defined Networking (SDN).
