Tenured/Tenure-Track Assistant, Associate, Full Professor – Mechanical Engineering
The George Mason University, Volgenau School of Engineering (VSE), Department of Mechanical Engineering invites applications for open-rank Tenured and Tenure-Track Faculty positions to begin Fall 2016.
Launched in Spring 2015, the Department of Mechanical Engineering is the most recent addition to VSE. The newly approved Mechanical Engineering curriculum has been designed to emphasize opportunities for student access, engagement, and enrichment. The department anticipates rapid growth in student enrollment, and has developed an aggressive plan to build a faculty that will support and deliver its innovative curriculum while contributing to the vibrant research culture in the school.
Applicants must have an earned doctorate in mechanical engineering or a closely-related discipline. A commitment to teaching excellence is fundamental to these positions and to the mission of George Mason University. Successful applicants will be expected to teach across the core Mechanical Engineering subject areas (i.e., mechanics, materials, and thermal/fluid systems), and will be expected to support the major design experience—the senior capstone project. Tenure-track applicants at the assistant professor rank will also be expected to establish an externally funded research program and to contribute to knowledge creation evinced through scholarly publications; while applicants for tenured positions at higher ranks must have established a strong record of research and scholarship, and will be expected to maintain their research engagement.
