As a member of the Finance Information Systems (FIS) group and reporting to the Executive Director, Application Support, the Director of Financial Reporting and Business Intelligence is responsible for monitoring reporting functionality to ensure personnel across the University can access critical financial data. The Director of Finance Business Intelligence will work to create data structures for business intelligence analytics by gathering business and functional requirements and then translating those requirements into scalable solutions that work well within the overall data architecture. This individual also oversees and directs the analysis, design, development, testing and deployment of Reporting work units in PeopleSoft, the University financial data store (FDS) and related systems, including both scheduled and ad-hoc reporting. This position plays a key role as a liaison between CUIT Enterprise Reporting, CUIT Enterprise Application Development, various client groups within Finance and across the University, supporting the University's business through design and development of financial reports and data analytical tools.
Ongoing responsibilities include but are not limited to monitoring reporting functionality to ensure personnel across the University can access critical financial data; working with central Finance administration and senior business officers across the University to understand and support business requirements and processes via appropriate data warehouse and reporting design; working closely with Finance and Information Technology to define strategies for reporting solutions, objectives for reporting systems infrastructure, and coordinating development activities. The Director will be responsible for actively contributing to ongoing process improvement by assisting in the development and communication of policies, procedures and user support tools; driving the design, development and implementation of business intelligence applications and applying subject matter expertise in recommending improvements and changes; overseeing and participating in end-to-end functional testing by defining test plans and scripts to ensure functional design requirements are met in support of routine application of patches and fixes; and providing technical/functional support for user incidents submitted via the ServiceNow CRM tool including financial data analysis, troubleshooting issues, and working with business owners to determine the best course of action. Responsibilities also include interfacing with users to verify issue resolution, validate incidents and communicate progress to customers in a timely manner; and achieving agreed upon service level performance metrics by effectively troubleshooting and resolving incidents. The Director will directly manage the Manager, Financial Reporting and the Senior Reporting Analyst. Responsibilities also include other duties and special projects as assigned.
General Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree required; A minimum of seven years of related work experience with strong technical system and data warehouse/business intelligence experience required.
Additional Specific Minimum Qualifications: Prior supervisory experience required. Experience with ERP systems (PeopleSoft Financials preferred) and Enterprise-class Business Intelligence tools required (SAP Business Objects, Crystal Reports and WEBi preferred). Expertise in database querying (Oracle PL/SQL preferred), data warehouse modeling, data analysis and report design required. A solid understanding of financial management reporting design and usage, including financial reporting, accounting processes and budgeting concepts required. Demonstrated excellence in a variety of competencies including: project management, analytical thinking, oral & written communication skills, organizational & interpersonal skills. Extensive experience collecting and translating business requirements into technical design requirements. Demonstrated ability to work in a high pressure, fast-paced environment with changing priorities and across multiple projects. Ability to work with changing priorities and with multiple projects required. Excellent analytical, organizational, interpersonal, oral and written communication skills, including a high level of attention to detail and active listening skills required. Must be able to negotiate issues, resolve problems and have strong influencing skills. The successful candidate must be able to work well with all levels of management, both internally and externally, be flexible in nature, have sound judgment with a collaborative style that fosters teamwork and cooperation beyond the immediate team to the broader organization. Must have a passion for excellent customer service and commitment to exceptional quality.
Preferred Qualifications: Advanced degree or other professional certification preferred. Experience in higher education is preferred. Familiarity with Grants Management and Procurement reporting preferred.
