Enterprise Systems (ES) is unit within the Division of Information Technology at Virginia Tech. Enterprise Systems supports the mission of the university by developing, coordinating, and managing application software systems that provide critical information services for university constituents. Three teams within ES (Finance Applications, Academic Applications, and Business Applications and Integration Services) are seeking motivated individuals interested in using technology to solve business problems within a dynamic evolving technical environment.
Work as part of a team to implement, maintain, support, and enhance integrations between our primary ERP system Ellucian Banner, vendor purchased ancillary systems (both locally hosted and cloud based), locally developed systems, and external entities.
Provide technical support to campus administrative offices for ES supported systems.
Strive to understand business processes and be able to apply this understanding to operational improvement initiatives
Communicate effectively with a broad range of users about information technology issues.
Create and maintain accurate documentation.
Required Qualifications:Bachelor’s degree and or relevant equivalent work experience
Exposure to business process analysis and requirements gathering concepts
Exposure to systems analysis concepts
Exposure to relational database concepts
Exposure to one or more modern object-oriented programming language
Demonstrated skills in working effectively in a team environment
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Preferred Qualifications:Bachelor's degree or higher in Business Information Technology, Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related field
Demonstrated experience with the development of web applications, processes, and/or reports that use a database system.
Demonstrated experience using modern development and design methodologies in one or more programming language.
Experience with business processes and applications supporting higher education
Experience working with Ellucian (formerly SunGard HE) Banner systems
Experience using one or more programming languages to perform database queries, modifications, and database transactions
Experience with Oracle SQL and PL/SQL development
Experience with Test Driven Development (TDD) and/or Agile Development
Experience with object-oriented programming (OOP) and/or object-oriented analysis and design (OOAD)
Experience using application frameworks such as Spring, Grails, or AngularJS
Experience using build and dependency management tools such as Maven, Ant, Ivy, or Gradle
Exposure to working within a Unix/Linux environment including BASH/KORN shell scripting
