Chapman University's Sociology Department is seeking a tenure track Assistant Professor of Sociology, beginning August 2017, whose primary research focuses on the substantive area of Sociology of Health and Illness with preference for quantitative methods/statistics.

Responsibilities: Teaching responsibilities include teaching 4 courses each academic year including medical sociology as well as core courses in the sociology major such as statistics for social sciences. The successful candidate will develop courses in sociology of health, illness, and medicine.
Tenure track faculty are expected to develop and maintain an active research agenda for future tenure consideration and are evaluated on their excellence in research/scholarly activity, teaching, and service.
The Sociology Department is seeking candidates whose research focuses on social contexts of health and illness, health disparities, and/or health services. Examples include, but are not limited to: health policy; global health; gender; aging and life course; neighborhoods and health.
A PhD in sociology, with emphasis in sociology of health, illness and medicine.
An excellent scholarship record appropriate to time since Ph.D. and an active empirical social-scientific research agenda.
A record of or demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching is required, along with a commitment to undergraduate personalized education, including engaging undergraduate students in the research process.
The ability to conduct theory-based research in the sociology of health and illness.
The ability to effectively communicate research to a broad interdisciplinary audience, with the goal of wide research impact.
Commitment to advancing the research mission of Chapman University through pursuit of external funding and/or interdisciplinary collaborations.
Experience with statistical software packages such as Stata, SAS, SPSS, and/or R.
Evidence of success in obtaining external funding.
Record of collaborative research experiences with interdisciplinary teams.
