Under supervision of the Director EOF, the Administrator of Minority Male Mentoring and Retention is responsible for providing leadership in the development and implementation of the Minority Male Mentoring and Retention Academy (Academy) focusing on student retention initiatives committed to the success of minority males. The Administrator supports students to persist, graduate and transfer to a four year institution. Responsibilities include management of a minority male mentoring program, student recruitment and retention initiatives, and academic advisement/case management regarding educational and career goals.
Examples of Duties:
Provides leadership in the development of new initiatives relating to the success of minority males.
Provides academic coaching/advisement and assistance with career exploration
Develops, coordinates, implements and facilitates a comprehensive array of educational and cultural programs for the minority male population.
Recruits and collaborates with faculty, staff and peer mentors in the development of the Minority Male Mentoring and Retention Academy.
Directs, organizes and facilitates seminars and workshops for small and large groups on topics including and but not limited to: learning styles, goal setting, time management, career planning, budgeting, and skills related to testing and note–taking.
Serves as an advocate for students receiving services through the Academy and acts as a liaison between faculty, college administrators and professional staff.
Demonstrates appropriate, effective and beneficial rapport with all Academy participants.
Responsible for the coordination, advertising and execution of program training, events and activities.
Responsible for the recruiting, screening and monitoring peer and professional mentors with program participants.
Responsible for the review and reporting of program participant's academic performance (enrollment, course attendance and completion, credit accrual, grade point average, degree requirements, etc.) at the end of each semester.
Responsible for data collection and assessment related to programmatic student outcomes and external community support of program objectives.
Collects and reviews peer logs and mentoring assessments.
Maintains professional knowledge of best practices in a community college environment with a strong commitment to the community college philosophy and a student – centered learning environment.
Maintains and updates training manual and the Academy webpage.
Assists Academy participants in making a transition from their community to the college.
Responsible for performing other related duties as assigned
Bachelor's Degree required. Master's preferred.
Experience in peer mentoring, academic coaching/advising, career exploration with knowledge of financial aid/scholarships processes.
Experience working with diverse student populations with the emphasis on minority male students.
Recruitment experience at a community college.
Experience in recognizing the needs of academically and financially challenged students and assisting them in achieving their educational and career goals.
Ability to support program assessment, evaluation and data management.
Strong oral and written communication skills and the ability to conduct small and large group meetings, workshops or seminars.
Demonstrates soundness in judgement, decision making skills, and the ability to maintain confidential sensitive student information.
Demonstrates attention to detail, organizational skills and strong work ethic.
Demonstrates cultural competence, sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic and ethnic backgrounds of the community college students, faculty, and staff and a commitment to a student –centered environment.
Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite applications.
Experience with Ellucian Banner system preferred.
Willingness to work flexible schedule with variable hours, including both evenings and weekend.
