This position reports to the CALS Executive Director of Business Operations and Strategic Initiatives, and the CALS Director of Human Resources in collaboration with department heads, to provide leadership, consultation and responsibility for the financial and human resources operations of the departments of Animal and Poultry Sciences, Dairy Science, Ag., Leadership & Community Education, Agriculture Technology and the college Academic Programs unit. Responsibilities include: In collaboration with department heads, responsible for management, consultation and strategic application of all financial resources including salary budgets, operating and overhead funds, sponsored funding, VT Foundation accounts, payroll transactions, graduate assistantships and tuition scholarships.
Consult and assist department heads and faculty with workforce planning, strategic staffing guidance, and implementation of staffing initiatives.
Assist in strategic planning and growth of the departments.
Ensure compliance with Virginia Tech, College, and departmental policies and procedures related to finance and human resources.
Provides long and short range strategic resource planning for departments in coordination with CALS Finance and HR leadership.
Advanced degree (MS) in business, finance, management, accounting, public administration, human resources or equivalent level of education and training or experience;
Experience with financial/budget preparation and analysis;
Experience compiling and analyzing fiscal data;
Experience interacting and consulting with faculty or leadership in a collaborative role;
Ability to exercise judgment, make decisions, set priorities, interpret policies and procedures, work independently and communicate effectively;
Ability to organize, perform, and manage both financial and human resource related information;
Must be able to establish and maintain a positive image for the departments and the college.
Advanced degree in applicable discipline;
Grants management experience;
Financial and/or Human Resources experience in a higher education setting;
Demonstrated knowledge of finance/HR systems and databases;
Demonstrated capacity for use of technology, including significant software skills.
