The Executive Director of the Business Engagement Center (BEC) is responsible for planning and implementing an integrated approach to engaging industry with Virginia Tech in a holistic manner to expand relationships with faculty, students, and university programs. The Executive Director will oversee a central team and two to four satellite Business Development Directors, a marketing manager, and data specialist. This position will manage and support the identification and evaluation of new strategic partnership opportunities that fit into the strategic vision of Virginia Tech and will contribute to growth. The Executive Director will exhibit expertise with domestic and international partners concerning improvement, diversification and expansion of Virginia Tech and industry collaborations. The Executive Director will maintain a current working knowledge & understanding of the industry news and trends and apply this knowledge to the formulation of recommendations to BEC management. The BEC's mission is to connect industry with researchers, students, and resources at Virginia Tech. The BEC strives to create partnerships that will help drive world class research and partnerships.
The Executive Director will lead an organization that will realize success across many metrics including but not limited to: Strategic Partnerships, Philanthropy, Research partnerships and investment, Involvement with Students, Access to Resources, Involvement in Centers and Consortia, Economic Development, Marketing and Sponsorships.
The Executive Director will be responsible for formation and management of an internal advisory board of key university stakeholders with an interest in the work of the Business Engagement Center.
Reports jointly to the Vice President of Research and Innovation and the Associate Vice President of Development for Colleges.
Master's degree or a Bachelor's degree and significant experience in business development setting.
Willingness to travel on a frequent basis.
Individuals should demonstrate professionalism, with strong communication skills and be capable of motivating internal stakeholders, corporations, and volunteers.
The successful candidate will be self-motivated and have the ability to work as a team member in a complex organization.
Previous experience developing and implementing strategies with increasing complexity.
Significant years of experience in a corporate setting.
Proven research and development and business development skills exhibited through: financial success, strong team and program building skills, and history of customer development success.
Demonstrated knowledge of national security, technology markets, university operations or relevant fields.
