The Virtualization DevOps Engineer reports to our Director of Infrastructure Platform Engineering and is responsible for the following:
Collaborating with customer stakeholders, architects, implements, and supports the HUIT systems environment from a hardware (server and storage), software, and operational perspective (deployment, monitoring, data retention, performance tuning). This includes physical, virtual and cloud-based systems in a 24/7 environment.
Manage, upgrade, and follow best practices for Cisco UCS environment - act on alerts and troubleshoot issues.
Assists in developing ongoing transition and support plans for VMware environments slated to migrate to a cloud platform
Partners with Cloud/DevOps and customers to schedule/migrate/manage moving VMs to AWS
Develops and maintains an infrastructure capacity plan
Documents, communicates, and enforces a technology standards policy.
Executes TEST plans to check system infrastructure performance/upgrades.
Reports on findings and makes recommendations for improvements.
Participates in rotating on call off hours support
Conducts research on emerging technologies in support of infrastructure development efforts and recommend technologies which will increase cost effectiveness and infrastructure flexibility.
Collaborates with Central Security, Risk Management and Audit Services (RMAS) and auditors to comply with Harvard security policies
Supports Infrastructure team members and provides input to internal knowledge transfer sessions in your areas of expertise
Contributes to departmental process and procedural documentation
