We are seeking an exceptionally talented individual with a drive for innovation to join our Enterprise Big Data & Business Intelligence team at OHSU. Working closely with Data Scientists and our Big Data Solutions Architect, the Big Data Engineer will evaluate, design, develop, test, deploy and maintain our big data platform. This role requires demonstrated hands on experience building large-scale data processing systems, data warehouse solutions and proven success in implementing NoSQL database technologies.
This position is responsible for developing, implementing and maintaining a variety of methods for reporting on and accessing information stored across OHSU systems in varying formats (structured, semi-structured and unstructured). This work ensures that the information assets of the OHSU enterprise are leveraged to enhance financial, clinical, operational, and research decision-making, therefore ensuring competitive business advantages. This position is responsible for implementing information technology solutions that allow users to appropriately generate timely, accurate and comprehensive information for managing our business.
This position will be responsible for ensuring that information from vendor-supplied data warehouse systems (Epic Clarity), OHSU proprietary systems, and other sources (external as well as semi-structured/unstructured data sources) are integrated and available to line-of-business users. This will require performing system design, development, testing and implementation of Big Data technologies. This position will need to perform scoping and estimating of integrating Big Data with existing Data Warehouse/other OHSU data sources and be able to present technical information and design proposals in easily understood terms in both verbal and written form.
The person in this role should be able to evaluate identified data science requirements and recommend software and hardware to deliver successful solutions. To aid in determining such solutions, the Big Data Engineer must be able to develop prototypes/proof of concepts that can be evaluated by the organization for functional fit.
The person in this role must possess technical development knowledge related to NoSQL systems such as Hadoop applications like HBase, Spark or SolrCloud, or other distributed systems as well as being well versed in the Java software development process and Hadoop toolchain or comparable toolsets.
This position is also responsible for detailed technical analysis to assure the availability and accuracy of data processed by the BIMD or contained in the BIMD supported OHSU data warehouses and systems. This will include availability for rotation through an after hours on-call support model as needed for upgrades, project go lives or to provide ongoing support of new systems that may have 24x7 support agreements. This will require a broad knowledge of OHSU BI systems and workflows.
