Purpose of Position:
To hire a non-tenure track Assistant term (12 months) professor in higher education to collaborate with existing faculty in the development and implementation of master's and doctoral programs in higher education.
1.Teaching: Teach graduate courses in the area of specialization, work with master's and doctoral students on capstones and dissertations, and supervise/mentor students as necessary.
2.Research: Contribute to the Department's scholarly agenda by writing, presenting at conferences, and seeking external funding.
3.Service: Engage in service to the department, school, university, surrounding community, and national/international professional organizations.
4.Other (for instance administrative duties, etc.): Will broaden participation among members of underrepresented groups. Will demonstrate through research, teaching, and/or public engagement the richness of diversity in the learning experience and will integrate multicultural approaches and perspectives into instructional methods and research tools.
Earned doctorate in higher education administration or related field. Evidence of successful teaching at the graduate level. Ability to work in a team. Experience in urban settings. Evidence of involvement in and sensitivity to the needs of underserved and/or underrepresented groups. Demonstrates how teaching or creative activity contributes to the core mission.
Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU.
Experience with doctoral students including advising and/or chairing dissertations/capstones and serving on committees. Potential for program development in interdisciplinary settings. Experience with online delivery of instruction. Expertise in one or more of the following areas: law in higher education; diversity in higher education; university-community partnerships; access and choice in higher education; student/adult development; and economics and finance in higher education. Academic, research, and/or professional experiences at urban research universities or in serving communities and populations in urban and underserved areas. Experiential learning through lived experiences and/or professional services that inform worldviews and/or perspectives about minority group status, to include race, ethnicity, gender, sexuality, religion, and disability. Track record of/potential for externally funded research experience. Evidence of collaborations with research centers and institutes and/or with community agencies. Evidence of service and leadership in national or international professional agencies.
